Single Mom Can't Stop Crying When Teenage Son Buys Her New Car

Share

At the tender age of 13, William Preston watched his mother, Krystal Preston, struggle to provide for her family day after day.

The single mother of three had been trying desperately to make ends meet, and William, her oldest child, noticed when the burdens of life made his mom cry.

A budding entrepreneuer, William does yard work and housework for people in the community of Fernley, Nevada, as a way to earn some extra money.

When he saw a used car for sale on Facebook, William thought perhaps he could earn enough to buy it so that his mom would finally have transportation.

“I saw on YouTube where people get their mom a car and then surprise her with it,” William told KOLO-TV. “I wanted to do that.”

William sent a message to the woman who was selling a 1999 white Chevrolet Metro.

“It was really cheap so I asked her if I could trade my Xbox for it or earn it, and at first she said no and after she thought about it, then she said yes,” William said.

William arranged everything with the seller and could hardly wait to tell his mom the good news.

“Mom, I got you a car — and she didn’t believe me,” William said.

Sure enough, William took his mom outside to where the seller was waiting. The woman drove them to her house where the white Chevrolet Metro was parked and completed the deal.

“I lost it, I bawled, I was just like, there’s no way,” Preston said. “And then she gave me the keys and the paperwork.”

At 20 years old, the vehicle needs a bit of work, but Preston said the car is simply perfect.

“At my low point, here comes my son,” Preston said. “Everybody goes through rough patches in their life, but there’s good that can come from any situation as long as somebody with a heart does it.”

Preston is bursting with pride over her son’s initiative and compassionate heart, but also struggles with the guilt of not always being able to provide for her kids.

“The fact that my kid did this, I’m proud, but as a mom, I’m supposed to be able to take care of my kids,” Preston said. “I’m supposed to do this, not the other way around.”

William’s incredible gesture has brought hope to his struggling family and inspired the millions of viewers who have already seen his story.

“What 13-year-old buys their mom a car? I don’t know any,” Preston said. “I can’t even express it; there are no words that can express my gratitude and how proud I am.”
