Queen Smitten with Harry's Bride, Gifts Couple Incredible Home Behind Windsor Castle
Meghan Markle has been an official member of the royal family for just over two months, and she and Queen Elizabeth are seemingly enjoying a charming grandmother-granddaughter bond.
Queen Elizabeth was smitten with Markle even before the royal wedding. She invited Markle to spend Christmas with the royal family — something no other engaged royal had done before.
When Prince Harry married his beloved bride in May, the queen delighted in gifting the couple a gorgeous country home called York Cottage.
In June, Markle’s relationship with the queen bloomed yet again as the two took their first official royal road trip together, alone.
The pair visited the nearby town of Chester, performing royal duties and likely having lovely conversation.
But the queen is not yet finished showering the newlyweds with her affection and generous gifts.
She reportedly plans to give yet another home to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex: a charming, fancy, royal home called Adelaide Cottage.
For the record, “cottage,” in royal terms apparently does not mean a small and cozy home fit for two.
Rather, it means sprawling, extravagant mansion, complete with ornate decor, tons of space, and of course, an interesting royal history.
Adelaide Cottage sits on the Windsor Castle estate, the same property where Markle and Prince Harry married. Adelaide Cottage was built in 1831, and has served as a retreat for royal dignitaries in need of a little extra privacy.
“There are seven gated entrances and exits to Windsor Castle so the newlyweds could come and go without worrying about being photographed,” a source said, as reported by The Daily Mail.
“The main bedroom in the generously sized cottage boasts a coved ceiling with gilded dolphins and rope ornament from a 19th Century Royal yacht.”
“There is also a marble Graeco-Egyptian fireplace.” Yeah, my cottage has one, too.
The same source said the duke and duchess have visited the secluded cottage and have fallen in love with everything it has to offer. They will reportedly be moving in soon, though Kensington Palace has yet to comment on the move.
Adelaide Cottage was formerly home to Group Captain Peter Townsend, who royal fans may recall had a secret relationship with Princess Margaret.
The cottage, while secluded, is conveniently located to the people and places the duke and duchess frequently visit. Although once the royal couple settles in to the mansion-cottage, it may be difficult to coax them away from its beauty.
