Mom and Dad Take Hilarious Photo Shoot After Their Last Baby Heads Off to College
It’s back-to-school season for many families, meaning new routines, new memories and celebrated milestones.
While plenty of parents have been posting adorable photos of their young children going off to school, a couple from Ohio decided to post a hilarious photo of their own.
Vicky Piper and her husband, Jeff, just sent their youngest child off to college.
Big sister Caitlyn moved out last year, and in early August, Vicky and Jeff dropped their son, Cameron, at Saginaw State University.
Vicky and Jeff are now officially empty nesters — a milestone that leaves many parents feeling depressed, anxious or a little uncertain what their next chapters will look like.
Vicky told Buzzfeed that several of the couple’s friends had reached out to them, just to ask how they were holding up now that both kids had moved out of the house.
That’s when Jeff had the brilliant idea to capture the Pipers’ latest milestone with a hilarious photoshoot of their own. These two empty nesters have nothing to cry about — they are celebrating this fresh season of life with all kinds of enthusiasm.
“20 years ago we didn’t have gender reveal parties, portraits in beautiful fields with baby shoes to announce a pregnancy,” Vicky wrote on Facebook. “Nor did we have baby photos on a blanket with a circle around a number showing how old they were.”
“We drove our babies to sears or Olan Mills to get their photo???!!!!!” Vicky wrote.
“So in honor of our next chapter…here you go.”
Vicky said that while she and her husband do feel that twinge of sadness that their son has left the nest, they are fully confident that their son will do very well on his own.
The couple is looking forward to being together again, kid-free for the first time in decades. In September, they will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary.
“We’ve always loved each other so much that we have been looking forward to this,” Vicky said. “[Jeff] just kept on saying he just wants to date me all over again.”
After navigating the crazy journey of parenthood together, Jeff and Vicky are celebrating a marriage that has weathered the rough times and is still standing strong.
“We’ve raised our kids and we still love each other,” Vicky said.
Party on, empty nesters.
