Grandmother Rescued by Boat Captain After Being Swept Out to Sea on Iceberg
An adventurous grandma got herself in a bit of trouble after drifting out to sea on an iceberg during her vacation to Iceland.
Judith Streng was visiting Diamond Beach near the Jökulsárlón Lagoon with her adult son, Rod Streng, when the pair noticed an iceberg shaped like a throne.
Several other tourists playfully sat on the throne, snapping photos and enjoying the stunning scenery, so Streng thought, “Why not?”
But while she sat posed on her frozen throne, a large wave suddenly came rolling in and lifted the iceberg right out to sea with Streng still perched on top.
Streng’s son snapped photos and sent a string of captions to his daughter, Catherine Streng, who is currently teaching English in South Korea.

Catherine told BuzzFeed the entire comical event was, “just so something that would happen to my family,” and shared the series of text messages she received from her dad:
“She ascended the throne after a wave had pulled back and left it briefly exposed on the beach,” Rod Streng wrote. “Then a wave washed in and dislodged the ice throne, rocking it from side to side.”
“When the wave retreated, it lifted the dislodged throne and carried her out with the tide.”

Thankfully for Streng, Randy Lacount, a licensed boat captain from Florida, happened to witness the event and came to Streng’s aid.
“He just happened to be onshore when the whole thing occurred, so he waded out into the roiling water and pulled her off the iceberg as it drifted out to sea, supporting her until they reached the shore,” Rod explained.
Streng is good-natured about the event, able to laugh about the adventure her family will remember for years to come.
“I thought it [would] be quite fun,” she told ABC News. “You know I always wanted to be queen. I mean, come on, that was my chance.”
