Actor Tim Conway 'Almost Entirely Unresponsive,' Daughter Fighting for Guardianship
Actor Tim Conway is not doing well, according to his daughter, Kelly Conway.
The 84-year-old comedic legend has dementia, which has advanced to the point where Conway is “almost entirely unresponsive,” according to Kelly.
Like many families struggling to make important health care decisions about a loved one suffering from dementia, the Conway family seems to be struggling with opposing viewpoints on what is best for the beloved film star.
According to The Blast, Conway’s daughter is seeking guardianship of her father so that she can make the health care decisions she feels are in the best interest of her father.
Conway’s wife, Charlene, is planning to relocate Conway to a different health care facility. The move apparently has Kelly very concerned.
Charlene is “planning to move him out of the excellent skilled nursing facility he is currently at,” according to The Blast, “and place him in one that won’t give him access to ‘registered nurses at all times and his 24-hour caregiver and speech therapist (to help with swallowing).'”
In court documents obtained by The Blast, Kelly said that Conway cannot “properly provide for his personal needs for physical health, food, and clothing.”
As his body continues to deteriorate, the actor is “almost entirely unresponsive.”
Conway fans will remember when the young actor burst onto the Hollywood scene with a sensational sense of humor and no acting experience.
“I had no professional training,” Conway said in a 2004 interview. “I had a sense of humor and had been in front of a microphone.”
It wasn’t long before Conway had teamed up with costars Carol Burnett and Harvey Korman on the famous “The Carol Burnett Show.”
The show ran for over a decade, leaving fans in stitches and watching reruns to this day.
The actor also starred in “McHale’s Navy,” as the not-so-bright Ensign Charles Parker, and appeared in a slew of television series’ as a guest actor.
In 2002, Conway was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame.
Fans are disheartened to watch one of comedy’s brightest stars begin to fade and many are sending well wishes to the Conway family as they navigate this difficult season.
