Abandoned Dog with Gigantic Tumor Left for Dead, But Vets Refuse To Give Up on Her
A Florida animal rescue organization isn’t exactly sure how an abandoned dog named Mazie survived so long in her abused and neglected state, but they are thankful for the chance to try and save her life.
Mazie was discovered by a woman who coaxed her out from underneath a truck by offering her some food.
When the woman saw the football-sized tumor hanging from Mazie’s side, she knew something was very wrong with this abandoned dog.
A Fort Myers animal rescue, Love is Fur Ever Dog Rescue, has taken Mazie for immediate veterinary care, saying this poor dog is not out of the woods just yet.
Victoria Fraizer, founder of LIFE rescue, said that when she first saw Mazie’s neglected state, she was “disgusted.”
“My body hurt for her,” Frazier told WFTX-TV.
“The first thing I needed to do was get with our vet to team to make sure that this is something that as a team we can help her.”
Veterinarian Megan Davis says Mazie has an unpredictable road ahead of her, but the doctor is committed to doing all she can to give the pup a new chance at life.
“It’s going to be a long road. None of this is going to be quick,” Davis said, adding that the dog suffered from a very low red blood cell count and dehydration in addition to the tumor.
On Oct. 9, LIFE rescue announced that Mazie was still hospitalized in critical condition. Her medical team is working to build Mazie’s strength to a point where her body will be able to tolerate surgery.
“She is strong-willed, a fighter, and she isn’t ready to give up,” Mazie’s team wrote on Facebook. “Mazie is so sweet and we can’t even start to imagine that she lived like this for so long and alone.”
The organization is asking for donations to offset Mazie’s medical costs.
No matter what life has in store for Mazie, at last, she can know the love and care that human hands are supposed to give to dogs.
As the little warrior continues to fight, her medical team will be by her side, offering kindness and compassion every step of the way.
