92-Year-Old Tells Delivery Guy She'd Like Breakfast, So He Whips Out His Own Cell Phone
An adorable story featuring a 92-year-old Filipino woman and a fast-food delivery guy is making readers across the globe feel a glowing warmth inside.
Maris Mayol Tian, a resident of Bacolod City in the Philippines, said she ordered breakfast from a local fast-food restaurant called Jollibee.
Her 92-year-old neighbor witnessed the delivery and decided she wanted in on the action, too.
Beckoning the delivery man over to her house, the sweet woman wanted to place an order directly with him, not realizing she was supposed to call ahead to place an order.
Specifically, the woman had a hankering for spaghetti and macaroni soup.
“I honestly thought he would just ignore her, laugh and be on his way, but he actually took out his own cellphone, dialed a number, and ordered for her!!!” Tian wrote on Facebook.
Tian thought the encounter was so heartwarming that she snapped a photo and told the story on Facebook.
“There was a time when I hated Jollibee’s delivery service because they messed up a few times, but now I think I’m going to order more delivery from them,” she wrote.
The post has gone viral, as people have fallen in love with the cute old woman and the kind young delivery man, later identified as Elpegie Palmares Sicor.
Tian told the Filipino news outlet Coconuts that she’s not really sure of the woman’s real first name. She is simply known as “Nanay,” a respectful word meaning “mother.”
Tian told Coconuts that Sicor contacted her on Facebook and thanked her for sharing the story.
Sicor told her he’s feeling thankful and humbled by the encounter with Nanay.
“He was praised at work by his manager and his co-workers. He said thank you,” Tian said.
He can’t explain the feeling, [he’s just] very humble.”
Tian was impressed with the way Sicor took time from his busy work day to help an older person in a kind, respectful way.
“Not a lot of people show kindness and pay attention to old people,” she said, “but this guy did and I think that is very commendable and heartwarming.”
