7-Year-Old Devastated After Dog Passes Away. Parents Surprise Her with Puppy in Emotional Video

Share

For many children, the loss of a pet is their earliest experience with death.

The tears come, the questions follow, and an entire family sits in sadness, lamenting the loss of an animal that had become part of the family.

Each child responds uniquely to a pet’s death, processing the grief at his own pace.

Seven-year-old Izzy, from the U.K., had been grappling with the death of her dog, Tink, since January. Tink, a Yorkshire terrier, had been part of the family since Izzy was a baby.

Tink and Izzy were the same age. And when Tink passed away, Izzy was devastated.

As a parent, it’s tough to know when the timing is right to bring a new pet home after the loss of another. Jodie Jones, Izzy’s mother, said her daughter had expressed interest in having a new puppy.

So Jones waited until the timing felt right and decided to surprise Izzy with a furry ball of energy she could call her own.

Izzy came home from school, Jones said, having no idea that her mother had brought home a dog.

When Izzy laid eyes on the tiny new pup, she broke into sobs, a beautiful reaction that left Jones deeply moved. Izzy scooped the puppy into her arms as she wiped tears from her face.

The timing was absolutely perfect.

The puppy, Arlo, was also a Yorkshire terrier. Jones chose him as a nod to Tink, the pet that will always hold a special place in Izzy’s heart.

Jones said she didn’t expect her daughter to have such an emotional reaction.

“I was not expecting the reaction she gave, I thought possibly a jump up in the air and clapping but not her breaking down so happy,” Jones said, according to Story Trender.

Jones felt her heart swell with joy as she watched her daughter lay eyes on the thoughtfully chosen gift.

“I felt like I’d given her the world, her reaction was priceless,” Jones said.

She said Izzy was filled with gratitude to embrace the puppy she had so desperately wanted.

“Izzy is a very appreciative little young lady,” Jones said.
