After 2 Seasons of 'The Crown' Actress To Play Princess Diana Is Finally Announced

Fans of the popular, award-winning Netflix series “The Crown” have yet another reason to anticipate fresh seasons of the show: Princess Diana has been cast.

Relatively unknown actress Emma Corrin is set to play Lady Diana Spencer, the future Princess of Wales, starting in season four of “The Crown,” Netflix announced in a media release. Filming for season four will begin later this year.

After binge-watching the first two seasons with delight, viewers are still impatiently waiting to watch season three, which is set to premiere sometime in late 2019.

Fans had been anticipating Lady Diana Spencer to appear in season three, but for whatever reason, directors chose to hold off on introducing the character until the following season.

“Emma is a brilliant talent who immediately captivated us when she came in for the part of Diana Spencer,” the show’s creator Peter Morgan told The Hollywood Reporter.

“As well as having the innocence and beauty of a young Diana, she also has, in abundance, the range and complexity to portray an extraordinary woman who went from anonymous teenager to becoming the most iconic woman of her generation.”

Are you excited to see this new character on 'The Crown'?

Corrin, who is set to make television and film debuts in both the U.K. and the U.S. this year, is eager to step into the role.

“Beyond excited and honored to be joining ‘The Crown’ for its fourth season,” Corrin said.

“I have been glued to the show since the first episode and to think I’m now joining this incredibly talented acting family is just surreal.”

“Princess Diana was an icon, and her effect on the world remains profound and inspiring,” Corrin said. “To be given the chance to explore her through Peter Morgan’s writing is the most exceptional opportunity, and I will strive to do her justice!”

“The Crown” follows the royal’s lives by jumping ahead in time as the story spans the life of Queen Elizabeth. New stars are cast to play the royal characters every two seasons.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix content chief Ted Sarandos plans to run the series for six seasons total, covering the Queen’s entire life.
