1st Responders Show Up at Door, Mom Has No Idea Airman Son Is Hiding in Firefighter Suit
Thanks to the help of a group of firefighters, one Georgia family had a Thanksgiving celebration they’ll remember for years to come.
As Airman Isaiah Johnson’s parents prepared for Thanksgiving this year, they knew their son wouldn’t be at the table.
Like many military families, the Johnsons have had to get used to the absence of a loved one during family gatherings.
Holidays come and go with a twinge of sadness that comes with the sacrifice of military life.
Accepting that their son wouldn’t be home this year, Johnson’s parents forged ahead with their Thanksgiving plans. They cooked a feast, decorated the house, and prepared to welcome everyone who could make it.
It must have been quite confusing when out of nowhere, an entire team of Clayton County Firefighters knocked on the door.
Nobody in the family knew that Johnson was among the group, dressed up as a fireman, ready to surprise his parents.
“He was able to get leave from the U.S. Navy to come see his parents,” Clayton County Fire & Emergency Services wrote on Facebook.
“We dressed him up like a firefighter and went to investigate a ‘fire alarm’ at his parent’s house.”
Among the chaos, a voice is heard asking for the homeowner.
Johnson’s mother was standing right there in the kitchen when her son walked in and lifted the helmet off his head, revealing his true identity.
Ecstatic, Johnson’s mom let out a scream of disbelief. She fell to the floor, overwhelmed with the emotion of her son’s brilliantly executed surprise.
Joyous laughter filled the home as Johnson began hugging his family members.
The tall airman bent down to help his mother off the ground and gave her a warm, long-awaited embrace.
Clayton County firefighters were thrilled to be a part of the big reunion. “We love our community!” they wrote online, as evidenced by their willingness to help pull off the big surprise.
Video of the heartwarming military reunion has spread around the country, with viewers enthusiastically thanking Johnson for his service.
Clayton County Fire offered an extra tidbit of information for the curious, explaining that the United States Navy does in fact have Airmen, according to Military.com.
