Here's the List of Foods Recalled by the FDA This Week

Food Recalls and Safety Alerts from the FDA

The list below was gathered from the Food & Drug Administration website for the dates of Dec. 7 through Dec. 14, 2018.



1. 9Lives® Protein Plus®

J.M. Smucker Company issued a voluntary recall on Dec. 7, 2018, for 9Lives® Protein Plus® wet, canned cat food. The recall affects specific lots due to low levels of thiamine (vitamin B1), which can cause a deficiency in cats and lead to neurological or gastrointestinal issues. As of Saturday afternoon, no illnesses have been reported due to this issue. Those impacted should stop feeding the product to their cat and dispose of the food immediately.

The following UPC codes were impacted: 7910021549, 7910021748. The following “Best if Used By” dates were impacted: Mar. 27, 2020 – Nov. 14, 2020 and Apr. 17, 2020 – Sept. 14, 2020.



2. Meiqili Durian Candy

Fine Land Corp, makers of Meiqili Durian Candy, has recalled its 12-ounce bags because of undeclared milk allergens on Dec. 7, 2018. If consumed, this may cause serious life-threatening reactions for those allergic to dairy. As of Saturday afternoon, no illnesses or reactions have been reported. Therefore, consumers who purchased this product will be issued a full refund if returned to the place of purchase.

The following UPC code was impacted: 4-897055-795465-0. The product recalled is labeled as a product of China. It is a plastic bag with a clear window.



3. Fiesta Corn Seasoned with Red & Green Peppers

Del Monte Foods issued a recall on Dec. 11, 2018, due to the underprocessing of 64,242 cases of Fiesta Corn Seasoned with Red & Green Peppers. The products recalled are the 15.25-ounce size cans and can be returned to the place of purchase for a full refund or exchange. As of Saturday afternoon, there have been no reported illnesses or sicknesses due to this issue. However, if consumed, it could lead to a life-threatening illness.

The following UPC code was impacted: 24000 02770. The product impacted also has the following “Best if Used By” dates: August 14, 2021, August 15, 2021, August 16, 2021, Sept. 3, 2021, Sept. 4, 2021, Sept. 5, 2021, Sept. 6, 2021, Sept. 22, 2021 and Sept. 23, 2021.

4. Tahini

Achdut LTD. recalled multiple brands of its Tahini products due to salmonella on Dec. 11, 2018. The recall affects all products and sizes with expiration dates from April 7 to May 21, 2020. These products may be contaminated with salmonella after health officials tested a sample as positive. As a result, the company is currently being investigated by the FDA and public health officials.

The brand names of these products are Achdut, Baron’s, S&F, Pepperwood, Soom, and Achva and have been sold as Tahini, Whole Tahini, Organic Tahini and Seasoned Tahini. The following lot numbers were impacted: 18-097 to 18-141.



5. Organic Sunflower Butter

Inspired Organics, LLC issued a voluntary recall on Dec. 11, 2018, of its Organic Sunflower Butter. Although no illnesses have been reported as of Saturday afternoon, the product was recalled after testing positive for Listeria monocytogenes.

This product was distributed exclusively by Lipari Foods, LLC (item #967064) and has the following UPC code: 863669742526. The affected product has a best by date of 10/2019.



6. Sea Salt Caramels Tumbled in Milk Chocolate

Moonstruck Chocolate Company recalled its Sea Salt Caramels Tumbled in Milk Chocolate on Dec. 11, 2018. The 4-ounce bags may contain undeclared hazelnuts and if consumed, this may cause life-threatening reactions for those allergic to hazelnuts. As of the publish date of this article, no illnesses have been reported.

The lot numbers affected are 1094276 and 1094275. The best by dates on these packages are 11/12/2019 and 11/13/2019.
