Prince Charles Future Decided. Prime Minister Confirms & Has Queen's Blessing

Share

Prince Charles has spent his entire life preparing for the day that he takes over the royal crown, but he just found out that he has another role to look forward to.

Commonwealth leaders have just announced that he will also take on the role as Head of the Commonwealth once he becomes king. Queen Elizabeth II currently holds the title.

While the role is not hereditary like the English crown, the Queen expressed her deep wishes to the leaders that her son also takes over this title.

The Head of Commonwealth’s duties are mostly symbolic.

Whoever holds the title is expected to serve as a unifying force between the 53 states by making regular visits with each state leader and building relationships between them.

The Queen has taken the role very seriously. She has grown the Commonwealth from 8 members to 53 since 1953.

Because of her investment, the leaders listened when she expressed her wishes for her successor.

While the decision to appoint Prince Charles was ultimately unanimous, there was a discussion of considering a non-royal candidate.

Theresa May, Britain’s leader, said that he is a “proud supporter of the Commonwealth” and that it made sense for him to continue his mother’s work.

He is well traveled and an advocate for environmental causes, both traits that will help him succeed in his newly appointed role.

Are you glad Prince Charles has been chosen for this role?

When the leaders were making their decision, they were looking for someone who would continue to build peace, advocate gender equality, and seek solutions to climate change. They look forward to the ways Prince Charles will contribute.

Prince Charles released a statement saying, “I am deeply touched and honored by the decision of Commonwealth Heads of State and Government that I should succeed the Queen, in due course, as Head of the Commonwealth.”

“Meanwhile, I will continue to support Her Majesty in every possible way, in the service of our unique family of nations.”
