Famous Boxing Legend Grieving Dad's Death Writes Heartbreaking Goodbye Letter
Welsh boxing legend Joe Calzaghe posted a heartbreaking goodbye letter to his father following his death last week.
Enzo Calzaghe passed away on Sept. 17, 2018, and was 69 years old, according to BBC. The self-taught boxing coach became one of the most decorated trainers and helped three professional boxers win world titles, one of which is his son.
Enzo encouraged his son to consider boxing when he learned that Joe was being bullied at school, according to Wales Online, but Enzo never stopped encouraging and supporting his son to succeed in life.
Under his father’s lead, Joe became a super-middleweight world champion and he recognizes just how vital his father’s support was in his achievements.
He hasn’t been shy about thanking his father in the past. On Father’s Day 2018, Joe wrote, “Happy Fathers Day Dad! Without you I never would of achieved my dreams?”
Just a week after his father’s death, Joe posted a heart-wrenching tribute to his “best friend” on social media, further confirming how close he was to his father.
The letter starts, “Dad I miss you so much.”
“Thank you for always being there for me. I’m blessed having you as my dad and my best friend. You were my teacher, mentor and will always be my hero.”
Joe thanked his father for believing in him when he wasn’t able to believe in himself and helping him regain that self-confidence.
He also thanked God for his father’s constant presence throughout his life, recognizing that “nothing would of been possible” without his father’s support.
“You supported me through the highs and lows & taught me how being a great dad should be,” Joe wrote. “You will be missed everyday. You are always in my heart & will continue to be by my side throughout my life.”
“I Love you always & forever Dad ❤️”
There’s no doubt that Enzo was extremely supportive and encouraging to his son and it seems like something Joe will remember forever. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Joe and the rest of the Calzaghe family as they grieve.
