Christians Need To Stop Saying 'This Is Murder' Without First Saying 'We Will Serve You'
In light of the New York “Reproductive Health Act” that was passed on Jan. 22, 2019, many people on both sides of the pro-life vs. pro-choice debate shared their thoughts about the bill.
One particular quote from Matt Chandler was shared many times as pro-life Christians tried to articulate their convictions about the value of life, even the life of babies.
The quote came from an article published in 2016 titled “Abortion Is Everyone’s Issue.”
Chandler wrote, “As the Church, we must not say of abortion, ‘This is murder,’ without saying to pregnant women, ‘We will serve you.‘ If we’re doing the former without the latter, we aren’t truly understanding the gospel. We must listen, love, foster, adopt, give money, babysit, donate supplies, mentor young women and support in whatever ways God has equipped us.”
Sarah and Blake Thomas felt so strongly about these words that they shared a post not only asking people to consider adoption over abortion but to also make it known that they are ready to adopt. Their post quickly went viral.
Since the Thomas’ post went viral, other couples followed suit expressing their willingness to adopt babies that would otherwise be terminated.
“Don’t abort your baby,” most posts read. “We will adopt! Please contact us if you’d be open to adoption as an option! #adoptionislife”
Some even shared a quote from Psalm 139, “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.”
One couple has even started the process to become foster parents since posting their own post.
Most of the posts even share that they are willing to adopt from any state, implying that they don’t want distance to hinder the possibility of a child being given a home.
This couple, when asked by a friend in the comments if they were serious, emphatically answered, “Yes! It’s definitely real!”
These couples made their desires public in hopes of letting as many people as possible know that an adoption is an option and there are couples who are more than willing to bring a child into their homes. What do you think of these posts?
