Brokenhearted Vet Shares About Pets Final Moments Before Being Put Down: 'I Want You All to Know'

Share

Saying goodbye to a beloved pet is never easy, especially when it becomes clear that they are in such pain and misery that it becomes more humane to put them down.

In fact, it’s such an emotional moment that many owners choose to not be in the room when it happens. They say their goodbyes and let the veterinarians take care of the rest.

A viral post by an anonymous veterinarian implores people to reconsider that decision, however, and the reason why is truly heart-wrenching.

“When you are a pet owner it is inevitable, the majority of the time, that your pet will die before you do. So if and when you have to you have to take your pet to the vet’s office for a humane pain-free ending I want you all to know something,” the post began.

“You have been the center of their world for THEIR ENTIRE LIVES!!!!”

The anonymous vet then continues to remind all of us that even if our pets are only alive for a small portion of our lives, they have loved us their entire lives.

“It is a crappy decision/day/time/event every time, there is no argument against that and it is devastating for us as humans to lose them,” the post continued, recognizing how emotionally draining the decision can be.

“But please I beg you DO NOT LEAVE THEM. Do not make them transition from life to death in a room of strangers in a place they don’t like.”

The next statement is one that will truly make your heart weep and want to hug your animals a little closer.

“The thing you people need to know that most of you don’t is that THEY SEARCH FOR YOU WHEN YOU LEAVE THEM BEHIND!!!!”

According to the vet, they frantically search each face in the room hoping to see a familiar one, looking for their beloved owners.

They don’t understand and they become afraid.

“Don’t be a coward because you think it is just too hard for YOU, imagine what they feel as you leave them in their most vulnerable time and people like me are left to try out best every time to to comfort them, make them less scared and try to explain why you just couldn’t stay,” the vet wrote.

The vet signed the post, “From a tired broken-hearted vet.”

The post quickly went viral, garnering over 111,000 shares since it was posted in August 2018. It’s message obviously striking a chord with the thousands who have read it.

Does this vet’s plea make you rethink your decision to leave the room before a pet has to be put down?
