Actress Says Miracle Daughter Is 'Gift' from Late Baby Son

Share

U.K. actress Kym Marsh posted a heartwarming photo on Instagram calling her 8-year-old daughter “a gift from above,” specifically from her big brother who passed away 10 years ago.

The Coronation Street actress gave birth to her daughter, Polly, on March 23, 2011 — seven weeks before her due date.

Marsh was diagnosed with an incompetent cervix while she was pregnant so she knew that premature birth was likely.

“It’s been really difficult,” she told BBC. “I have been diagnosed with an incompetent cervix, which is when your cervix is too weak to stay closed during pregnancy due to the extra weight of the baby.”

In fact, eight years later, on Instagram Marsh said that it wasn’t just the pregnancy that was difficult.

“We didn’t have an easy ride getting her here,” she wrote. “It was a rough ride, not just my pregnancy, but her first few weeks of life were scary and tough for her but she is one hell of a fighter and she fought and overcame every obstacle she was faced with.”

But Polly’s birth, no matter how difficult, was an incredible blessing.

Marsh gave birth to another premature baby in 2009 named Archie; he came 18 weeks early, but only lived for a few minutes outside of the womb.

Understandably, the actress struggled with the loss of her son, equating it to “such darkness.”

When Polly was born, however, everything changed.

“She saved me,” the proud mother wrote on Instagram. “She brought me light through such darkness, my sunshine, my absolute world.”

She even shared that she believes Polly was a gift sent from her older brother above.

Marsh wrote, “You are a gift. A gift from above. A gift from your big brother I believe. I believe he sent you to us. I am so thankful for that.”

8 years ago today I was blessed with the most amazing gift I could have ever wished for. My beautiful Polly was born. My little girl doesn’t even know how very special she is. She saved me. She brought me light through such darkness, my sunshine, my absolute world. We didn’t have an easy ride getting her here. It was a rough ride, not just my pregnancy, but her first few weeks of life were scary and tough for her but she is one hell of a fighter and she fought and overcame every obstacle she was faced with. Polly, I am so very proud of you. I am so very grateful for you and I feel so lucky that I was given the chance to be your mummy. You are a gift. A gift from above. A gift from your big brother I believe. I believe he sent you to us. I am so thankful for that. So on this day my sweetheart. Know how very much you are loved and cherished. You beautiful, funny, kind, caring, wonderful little girl. Happy birthday darling. I love you to the moon and back. Always and forever xxx

Following the traumatic loss of Archie and difficult birth of Polly, she decided to get an endometrial ablation which essentially removes the lining of her uterus, making it nearly impossible to get pregnant.

“Polly was seven weeks premature but okay and at my six-week check-up… I told (the doctor) I didn’t want any more (children),” she said, according to the Daily Mail. “I didn’t want to go through the trauma again because there would never be any guarantee it would be fine. And not just for me, but for my children and my parents – everyone suffered.”

For now, she is celebrating eight precious years with her “beautiful, funny, kind, caring, wonderful little girl.”
