Kate Middleton Made 'Very Personal' Donation to Children's Charity

Share

Everything Kate Middleton does is sure to turn heads. From the clothing she wears to the jewels on her head, everything about her is noteworthy.

Last summer, Kate got a noticeably shorter haircut. Not surprisingly, her hair had people near and far commenting on her new, chic look.

There’s a joke about her husband’s lack of hair somewhere in here!

As it turns out, however, the cut was more than just a fashionable decision. We are now learning it was also a charitable one.

Word has just come to light that Kate had a very special plan for her hair. Rather than let it just go to waste, she wanted to donate it.

Her stylist, Joey Wheeler, was delighted with the idea. The two of them settled on a charity that aids children.

Kate decided her hair should be sent to the charity anonymously. The charity, Little Princess Trust, makes wigs for sick children who have lost their hair due to illness.

As PEOPLE explains, Little Princess Trust was “Founded in 2006 by parents Wendy and Simon Tarplee in memory of their daughter Hannah, who died from cancer in 2005.”

Since that time, “the charity has since funded over 5,500 wigs for sick children.”

Chemotherapy and radiation treatments can often lead to hair loss. Premature hair loss can be tough for anyone to handle — children especially.

According to the Sunday Express, “[Kate’s hair] was sent using someone else’s name, so that the trust didn’t know it was from a royal source — they just thought it was from a female donor in the Kensington area.”

Little Princess Trust took the donated hair and turned it into one (or more) of their realistic, high-quality wigs. It was not known who received the wig made from Kate’s hair.

Helen Creese, a spokesperson for Little Princess Trust, told PEOPLE: “It’s lovely to think that somebody, somewhere — probably more than one person — has received a wig containing Princess Kate’s hair.”

But Kate’s hair isn’t the only “brush with fame,” they’ve had. Harry Styles also donated his hair to the charity back in 2016. He was just much less secretive about it!

Thanks to the kindness of Kate Middleton and others like her, more children battling serious illnesses do not also have to suffer the indignity of hair loss.

Would you ever consider donating your hair?
