Pregnant Cow Escapes Truck on Way to Slaughter House, Gives Birth and Becomes Mother

Share

If you’ve grown up on or experienced a farm with cows, you understand the level of work and effort it requires.

From the early morning milking to telling them apart, cows definitely require a different level of love, care and attention.

But cows tend to serve just two purposes in the eyes of most farmers: to provide milk, or to provide meat. It is always a sad concept to think about if you especially love this animal, but it’s also a battle between emotion and purpose of creation.

But even cows often understand their purpose. In fact, they can often sense when their lives are in danger, like when Bonnie the Cow’s owner passed away.

She and her herd were being transported for travel when she decided to flee the scene, joining a herd of deer and becoming accepted as one of their own. She eventually was captured and taken to an animal sanctuary where she thrives today, but she sure didn’t make it easy for them!

Runaway cows seem to be a common trend these days, as a cow named Brianna recently stopped highway traffic in New Jersey, according to ABC7 News.

According to the News Tribune, Brianna was on her way to a slaughterhouse in Passaic County on Thursday morning around 2:45 a.m. She jumped a whole eight feet from a truck to make her brave escape, and she took off on the highway.

That’s when Skylands Animal Sanctuary came to her rescue, where she eventually found refuge.

But then, to everyone’s surprise, Skylands Animal Sanctuary shared another post two days later revealing Brianna gave birth to a brand new calf.

“Brianna is now the proud mother of a beautiful baby girl named, Winter ❤️❤️❤️ she came to us at 1:30pm on 12/29/2018. You can hear my voice change when I say ‘Hi baby, that is because I saw Winter open her eyes for the first time and look right at me. Easily one the most incredible things I’ve ever been involved in, but also extremely nerve racking because the Dr. hadn’t gotten here yet,” Mike Stura, the founder of the animal sanctuary, wrote.

Due to the video’s graphic nature displaying the birth, you can view the video here.

Stura pondered the idea of what would have occurred if Brianna never escaped from the slaughter truck.

“She’s never had freedom, she’d been impregnated about nine months ago, and had already lost her home and her family, but that wasn’t enough, EVERYTHING was about to be stolen from her, her beautiful baby, and her life … She and her unborn baby would have been needlessly killed … This is the reality of dairy and meat,” Stura wrote.

However, now Winter will “never be without her mother.”

What an amazing story! Brianna clearly is a proud mother, already gracefully showing love to her newborn calf.

Runaway cows aren’t something you see every day, but sometimes the most unexpected things in life reap the most blessings.
