Grieving Mother on Mission To Share One Act of Kindness Per Day in Honor of Late Son
Everyone handles grief differently, but it can often be a long and painful process.
For parents, losing a child can be the worst pain to bear, and that pain often lingers internally for a long time.
But grief is a normal aspect of human life and many times, people use their own experiences and turmoils in grief to give back to others in a positive way.
In fact, sharing kindness and love with others can be a wonderful healer for the pain of grief.
One mother has decided to perform one act of kindness each day to honor the memory of her late son and cope with her grief.
Tara Jones, a mother of three, had moved Tampa, Florida, from Decatur, Alabama, in order to better protect her children.
According to Fox 13 News, Jones said, “I don’t want my son to be a statistic, I don’t want to have to bury him, I don’t want to have to visit him in prison.”
Jones got a job at the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office while her son was in high school. On Sept. 3, she received a call at 8:53 p.m. that her son, Te’Sean Blue, had died.
The 18-year-old was riding his bike near North Brooks and East Annie Streets when he was shot and killed.
“He likes peace, he wasn’t confrontational,” Jones said.
Jones posted on Facebook one month later to talk about her remaining grief and love for her son as she was trying to cope.
“I have always told my kids to at least try to do one good deed a day,” Jones said.
So this strong mother took the “pay it forward” philosophy she taught her children and decided to buy a stranger’s meal this past Thursday at a PDQ restaurant.
Gordon Greber was the stranger that she blessed, and he told Fox 13 how he felt when he learned about Jones’ story.
“I just sat down and cried because it just affected me so much. And I thought for someone to do that, it’s just the most amazing thing I’ve seen in a long time.”
Even Jones’ co-worker, Sheriff Chad Chronister, was moved to tears after hearing about her act of kindness.
“She wants to honor her son’s memory by going out and helping someone else and making sure that she brightens their day, and I couldn’t be more proud of her,” Chronister said.
This mother is channeling her grief into daily acts of kindness for others. She is an inspiration to us all as she copes with the loss of her son. Our prayers go out for this strong mother in her time of mourning.
