Arnold Schwarzenegger Undergoes Emergency Open-Heart Surgery
Arnold Schwarzenegger has reportedly undergone emergency open-heart surgery.
According to TMZ, the 70-year-old underwent surgery for a catheter valve replacement on Thursday. During the somewhat experimental surgery, Schwarzenegger experienced complications after the valve replacement failed.
The doctors were prepared in case this occurred and determined he needed emergency open-heart surgery.
The actor and former Gov. of California is now in stable condition.
Schwarzenegger has previously undergone heart surgery when he had an aortic valve replaced in 1977.
He also broke six ribs after a motorcycle crash in December 2001 and had to be hospitalized for four days.
“It was very painful, much more painful than the heart surgery,” he said. “A rib breaking is, like, the worst.”
He was in a second motorcycle accident in 2006 with his son Patrick but only required 15 stitches. Luckily, both of them were wearing helmets.
Schwarzenegger hadn’t shown any signs of failing health when he talked with Ohio Gov. John Kasich at an event last week in Los Angeles about their vision for the future of the GOP.
Both politicians said that their future vision for the GOP would be an inclusive and kind party with a willingness to work with Democrats to solve issues.
The actor is known for his role in the science fiction film “The Terminator” and the sequels to it, as well as his bodybuilding career.
He served as California governor from November 2003 to January 2011.
