Rescuers Searching for 3-Year-Old Who Went Missing After Playing Near Grandma's House
Volunteers are helping authorities search for a missing 3-year-old boy named Casey Lynn Hathaway from Craven County, North Carolina.
Casey was last seen playing outside of his grandmother’s house in Ernul, North Carolina, on Jan. 22, according to The Washington Times.
At the time, he was playing with two other children, but when the children came back inside, Casey was not with them.
Casey’s grandmother spent 45 minutes searching for the boy before calling 911 to report his disappearance.
According to the Craven County Sheriff’s Office, Casey has blond hair and brown eyes. He weighs approximately 25 pounds and is 28 inches tall.
Craven County Sheriff Chip Hughes said that the little boy was not adequately dressed for the weather at the time he went missing.
Hughes is deeply concerned about sinkholes and deep-water ditches located in the area that could be the cause of the boy’s disappearance.
To help with the search, a dive team has been assembled and is focusing on nearby ponds.
Hughes also told the media on Wednesday afternoon that the FBI, state investigators and the U.S. Marines Corps from the Camp Lejeune and Cherry Point bases have also joined the search.
Volunteers assembled at 8 a.m. Thursday morning to continue searching through the cold temperatures, WAGA reported.

“We’re not giving up,” Stanley Kite, the county’s emergency management coordinator, said.
The Sheriff’s Office is urging local residents to check their property, cars and storage sheds for the boy as he could be hiding inside.
“Our number one priority is to find Casey,” Hughes said on Wednesday. “No tip is insignificant.”
