This IKEA Has Been Letting in Stray Dogs off Street To Sleep Inside & Public Loves It
While IKEA is known for its chic home furnishing, one of its locations in Catania, Italy, is making news for something a little more heartwarming.
The Catania store has been letting stray dogs come into the store for nothing less than a nap, according to the Good News Network.
The store has been allowing the dogs to escape from the streets for years, and its customers love every minute of it.
People have posted pictures of the dogs snug as a bug in the store on social media, praising the kind actions of IKEA.
One customer, Facebook User Vittoria Taccia Gabrielli, published a video of the dogs on her Facebook page, showing them cuddled up in what may soon be someone’s home furniture.
The video has already racked up over 1 million views.
“My reaction was pure amazement,” she told The Dodo. “It’s not a common thing.”
“The dogs receive daily food and pampering from IKEA’s employees and customers,” she said. “Some dogs have even found a family, going home with customers.”
An American customer, Chartier Scala, who now lives in Italy told Mother Nature Network that the store has a local team of animal workers that make sure the dogs are even spayed an neutered.
“Dogs are there year-round,” she said. “They love the air conditioning during the summer. They are sterilized and looked after by an animal welfare group.”
“Fat and happy, they don’t wander from there,” she added.
“I know those dogs well,” another customer told Mother Nature Network. “You find them at the entrance sleeping between the racks, or at the exit between the tables of their restaurant, always with their sweet eyes.”
“I love them. They give me a sense of peace,” she added.
IKEA is known for its kind gestures towards animals. It donated several doll beds to animal shelters in 2017 so their cats could cozy up for a catnap whenever they wanted.
While IKEA has not commented about the generosity of its Catania store, customers hope that other business will follow their lead.
