Two Missing Girls Found on Island After Dad Never Dropped Them Off at School
A tip from an innkeeper on Mackinac Island, Michigan, helped authorities find two missing girls from Kent County, Michigan, WPBN reported.
Mackinac Island is a solitary island between the upper and lower peninsulas of Michigan. No vehicles are allowed on the island, and the only access is by boat or plane.
While the small island is charming and welcoming to many visitors each year, the findings of this innkeeper were a rare occurrence for the tourist location.
Michigan State Police Troopers had issued an Endangered Missing Advisory around 11 p.m. on Tuesday for two sisters who seemed to have disappeared.
The girls, Alexis Ypma, 12, and Jenna Ypma, 9, were with their father, Joel Ypma, who was reportedly showing signs of having a mental health episode.
Family members became concerned when he failed to drop the sisters off at school on Monday.
Authorities believe he may have driven his black Jeep Grand Cherokee to northern Michigan and was spotted in the Mackinaw City area.

The innkeeper saw the Endangered Missing Advisory on the news and recognized the girls who were staying on the island.
The innkeeper called the police and they were able to locate the sisters and their father.
It is suspected that Ypma took the girls by plane to the island as the three had flown in during the day on Monday.
Now, police are working to reunite Alexis and Jenna with their family in Kent County.
Thanks to the quick thinking of this innkeeper, both of these young girls are safe and sound.
