Elderly Woman Sits Alone at Waffle House, Shares Cupcakes with Employees for 88th Birthday
Birthdays are a day for celebration and for one Georgia woman, it is also the perfect opportunity to share with others.
On Friday, this sweet woman was turning 88 years old, and she wanted to spend her birthday giving back to those who treat her with kind and respectful service on a daily basis.
To commemorate her special day, the elderly woman brought treats for all the employees at her local Waffle House, and was seen passing out cupcakes and ice cream to everyone who worked there, according to WSB-TV.
This isn’t the first time the women brought treats for the staff. In fact, she has come to the Chamblee, Georgia restaurant each year for her birthday with a dessert in hand for all to share.
The woman was observed performing the kind act by Jason Durden, a WSB-TV NewsChopper 2 reporter.
Durdan asked a waitress at the restaurant about the women. She expressed her deep appreciation for the lady’s kindness and told Durdan that it was a regular occurrence on her birthday.
“She said this nice lady turns 88 tomorrow and every year for her birthday (she) brings treats to celebrate with the employees,” Durden told WSB-TV.
The 88-year-old woman is not the only one who has celebrated their birthday with workers at Waffle House.
Three-year-old Lawson Cooper loves Waffle House so much that his mother held his birthday party at the restaurant, according to ABC News.
“I wanted to do a party around his favorite food so it was an obvious choice to do a Waffle House theme,” Natalie Cooper, the boy’s mother, told ABC News. “(We) decided to have it in the middle of the afternoon when the restaurant isn’t as busy — and I’m glad I did! We were the only customers in the restaurant … our server was sweet and accommodating to our crazy bunch.”
A total of 16 guests were in attendance for Lawson’s special day. The staff also made the boy feel like part of the team as they made him an honorary employee with his own name tag, apron and Waffle House pins.
His mom had a cake made in a Waffle House theme, and guests stuffed themselves full on waffles and other breakfast foods. Lawson had his favorite meal — the kids’ waffle with a side of sausage and a boiled egg — and was smiles from ear-to-ear.
Waffle House has certainly shown that it’s a special place, especially for those celebrating their birthday.
We wish both these Waffle House regulars a “Happy birthday!” and hope there will be many more special times — and waffles — in their future.
