Donkey and Emu Have Fallen in Love, Searching for Forever Home Together

Share

Nothing pulls at the heartstrings more than the love of two animals. When the pair is on the unusual side, it makes you sit up and think a bit.

Such is the case for a male donkey named Jack and his female best friend Diane — an emu.

Yes, the pair can’t bear to be apart from each other, according to the CTV News.

Both Jack and Diane are rescue animals that were found on an abandoned farm in North Carolina along with an array of chickens, guinea pigs and other animals.

Carolina Waterfowl and Rescue saved the animals and watched as Jack and Diane grew closer than anyone would expect.

Their love for each other is proved by how they react to being separated.

When the Rescue had to transport the animals, it thought it would be best to keep Jack in his own trailer. This was until Diane had a fit of proportional size.

Diane cried and screamed that her beloved Jack was no longer by her side.

Would you fight to keep your best friend by your side?

She couldn’t stand being away from her buddy, so the Rescue let the pair ride together.

The two were found cuddled up and riding out the trip just like best friends would do together.

“I’d never really seen anything like it,” Jennifer Gordon told CTV News. “They were just taking comfort in each other.”

In another instance, Jack cried when the two were put in separate enclosures at the Rescue and attacked a different donkey who got a little too close to Diane.

“He is protective of her,” the Rescue wrote on Facebook. “Jack does not want any other donkeys near him or Diane.”

Diane also became frantic at the prospect of never seeing her friend again. She “paced around like an expectant father,” the Rescue told The Charlotte Observer.

The Rescue knew then that pair had to be kept together and reunited the two best friends.

“They like to cuddle and even sleep together,” Gordon told the Charlotte Observer.

Caretakers at the Rescue want the pair to be adopted together so they can continue their unlikely friendship. “We won’t be splitting them up,” the Rescue told CTV News Channel.

The Rescue let its Facebook followers pick the donkey and emu’s names, where a couple suggested Jack and Diane, which seem fitting for such a love couple.

The Rescue is seeking donations and currently looking for that forever home for Jack and Diane. We hope they find one so the two can continue their unlikely friendship.
