Worst Case of Animal Abuse Rescuer Has Ever Seen Leaves Her Crying Whole Way to the Vet

Share

Rescuing animals takes a lot of determination, kindness and strength, as many of the critters who are homeless are suffering from one condition or another and are usually in a bad way. In April 2017, one rescuer attended to a stray who was, as she so bluntly put it, “the worst case” she’d ever dealt with.

Posting on the Ravenswood Pet Rescue Facebook page, Shelley Ridgan wrote, “Meet Wanda. Well what can I say, The worst case I have ever collected ( A stray ) Thrown over a ladies fence late last night.”

The photos show a scruffy, moth-eaten dog with droopy, weeping eyes and horrible skin. The photos were bad, but the list of health conditions was even more appalling.

“This girl has sarcoptic mange, Ulcers in her eyes, Entropia in both eyes, Hematoma’s in both ears. Bloods have been taken to see if anything else is going on.”

Not only was she battling a number of health problems, she had clearly had puppies and was no more than 3 years old.

“I cried all the way to the vets,” Rigdan wrote. “She is staying in the vets, in ISO while we wait for blood results and she starts her treatment for her skin first, then we can look at the operations needed. We are going to raise funds to try and get this girl better.”

Since mange is so contagious, the dog — dubbed “Wanda” — had to remain in isolation, medicated, for four weeks, according to Metro. Thankfully, people donated to her cause, and Rigdan soon had over $10,000 to put toward the poor pup’s care.

Just two days after rescuing her, Rigdan was encouraged to see the pup showing signs of life. “Wanda this morning, as you can see she is already feeling better, her little tail is wagging and for possibly the first time in her short life she is feeling loved,” she posted.

“We thought that she wasn’t going to make it,” Rigdan said, but Wanda proved to be a fighter. It took three months for her to regain her health again, but she made it.

Now that she was doing better, a foster family took her in. She was great with other dogs and had a great personality, and her carers fell in love with her.

The dog with horrifying skin and infections is now happy, healthy, and beautiful, thanks to the love of those who cared for her as well as the generosity of online strangers who donated to her care.

She is very well taken care of now, and her owners recently celebrated her second “gotcha” day. They run a Facebook page for Wanda, so everyone invested in her journey can watch her live her life with joy.

“It’s been two years since that fateful day when some one threw me over a fence to get rid of me,” her owners wrote on Wanda’s Facebook page. “Fortunately I was found in time. I couldn’t have lasted much longer.”

“It was touch and go. Then off to a foster home where I was treated twice a day with medication for four months. I love this family so much and they love me so this is where I stay forever.”
