Tim Tebow and Fiancée Demi-Leigh Share How They Met and God Brought Them Together
It can be difficult to live in the public eye, especially when you’re trying to find love. Fame causes many problems for people, and it’s not easy to trust the potential suitors who come your way.
Tim Tebow is no different, and while he’s generally private about some aspects of his personal life, he’s been very honest and open about his faith. In his search for love, he knew he needed someone who shared his principles.
“They have to really love God,” he said, according to People magazine. “My faith is important to me — it’s the most important thing — and I need to be with someone who also shares that faith.”
When Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters won Miss Universe in 2017, it was the first time she’d been to the United States.
“I remember waking up super early the following morning to make my big move to New York City!” she wrote on Instagram. “A city I’d never been to before, in the beginning of a winter I’d never experienced before. When I arrived in New York it felt like the city had been waiting for me. I fell in love with the city so much this year that I’m planning on staying.”
Even before talking about her plans, though, she addressed the first mover in all of this.
“First and foremost all the glory goes to my Heavenly Father and savior, Jesus Christ,” she said. “In Jeremiah 29:11 He makes this promise: ‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’ I had a dream of becoming an influential young woman in my country, but His dream for me was so much bigger. I am forever grateful for al the experiences He has blessed me with in my life.”
But it was a very special event that first caught Nel-Peters’ eye in regards to Tebow. His “Night to Shine” event, which has spread like wildfire, got her attention and drew them together.
“Night to Shine is an unforgettable prom night experience, centered on God’s love, for people with special needs ages 14 and older,” the official website reads. “This February 8, 2019, Night to Shine will celebrate its fifth anniversary! On one night, 655 churches from around the world came together to host Night to Shine for approximately 100,000 honored guests through the support of 200,000 volunteers!”
Nel-Peters’ 10-year-old half sister, Franje, was invited to Night to Shine, and she started talking to Tebow through that, “Today” reported.
“She is my dad and stepmom’s daughter. She was born without a cerebellum and is completely disabled. She is my biggest motivator in life (and she has the most beautiful lashes any girl can dream of),” she told People magazine.
“God works in such incredible ways. Ways that we would never understand,” Nel-Peters said in a video posted on her Instagram. “God winks.”
Now the two lovebirds are engaged and looking forward to being married.
“She is a really special girl and I am very lucky and blessed for her coming into my life,” Tebow said. “I am usually very private with these things but I am very thankful.”
