Taco Bell Gives Entire Year of Free Food to Man Who Survived on Hot Sauce While Stranded

Whenever you go to Taco Bell, you have a choice of hot sauces to select from. These packets have a way of multiplying and hiding just out of sight, finding their way into miscellaneous drawers and gloveboxes until they’re way past their expiration date.

Most of the time you only need a few when you’re eating your order, and you never need them again. But if you are Jeremy Taylor, those forgotten sauce packets may just be the zip you need to get you through being stranded.

Jeremy Taylor, 36, of Sunriver, Oregon, and his dog Ally love the outdoors. They spend a lot of time in it, but on Feb. 24 as they headed into the Deschutes National Forest, they were actually headed toward an unplanned, five-day car-camping trip.

As they drove along a U.S. Forest Service Road in his Toyota 4Runner, they became stuck in the snow. He decided to stay in his car for the night and figure things out in the morning.

But in the morning, they were greeted with more snow. The snow was getting deeper and made hiking out impossible, so the two stayed in the car after a failed attempt to walk to safety.

The pair kept to the shelter of the car where Taylor found and consumed several Taco Bell sauce packets. Five days in, they were found.

“At approximatley 2:16pm on March 01, a snowmobile rider contacted Deschutes County 911 to report Jeremy Taylor had been located on Forest Service Road 40 near Wake Butte, west of Sunriver,” the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Oregon wrote on March 2.

“An Oregon Water Resouce SnowCat with one DCSO SAR member responded to the location and made contact with Jeremy and his dog Ally. Jeremy and Ally were found to be in good condition, but hungry after being stuck in the snow for five days.

“Jeremy and Ally were then transported to the intersection of FS Road 40 and FS Road 45 where he was reunited with family and friends.”

“Thank you everyone, I’m safe my Ally dog is safe,” Taylor wrote in a Facebook post on March 2. “I really appreciate all the help. Got lucky, lets never do that again. I’ll be in touch with everyone soon.”

In a comment to a friend, he wrote, “taco bell fire sauce saves lives,” and in return, Taco Bell has responded.

“We’re very glad Jeremy and Ally are okay,” Taco Bell said in a statement, according to Oregon Live. “We know our sauce packets are amazing, but this takes it to a whole new level.”

“We’re in touch with Jeremy and have sent him a well-deserved care package, a year’s supply of Taco Bell, and of course, all the sauce packets that come with it.”

While Jeremy sounds like he will avoid similar situations in the future, no doubt he’ll keep a few hot sauce packets around just in case.
