Photographer Takes Heartwarming Before-and-After Pics of Rescued Dogs

Sometimes even the best of intentions can’t prevent the worst of circumstances — that applies to many situations, including owning animals. Dogs require regular care, and if the number of dogs exceeds the number of carers, things can quickly spiral out of control.

That’s how these 10 Havanese pups were discovered, picked up and moved to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay.

The hoarding situation they were taken from was filthy and some of the dogs had eye ulcers, but food and water were readily available. The owners gave up the dogs without a fight, and no charges are being pressed.

The dogs ranged in age from 1-5 years and their coats were soaked in excrement.

“They have just caked on feces and a strong smell of urine in their coats,” Foster Care Coordinator with the human society, Dana Johnson, told WFTS-TV. “It’s just so thick.”

“In over their heads with their dogs,” she continued, referring to the owners. “I believe only one dog out of the 10 was neutered.”

As soon as they were brought to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay, they were treated for fleas and scheduled to be spayed and neutered. A grooming SOS was also sent out.

“CALLING ALL LOCAL GROOMERS ?,” the humane society posted on Feb. 6. “We currently have 10 Havanese mixes from a hoarding cruelty case in our care.”

“They are safe now, but we need help getting them happy, healthy and clean for when they are ready for adoption ? If you would like to volunteer your time to help us groom these pups between 2/7-2/9, please email danaj@humanesocietytampa.org.”

Within a short span of time, willing volunteers had pledged their clipping and bathing skills to the neglected dogs. One groomer, Emilie Desrochers, thought it was encouraging to see how many people volunteered.

“I think it’s amazing everybody is trying to pitch in and help find them homes and help get them cleaned and ready to go,” Desrochers said. “Even in the pictures where they are all dirty, they are still super cute. I can only imagine how gorgeous they’ll after and they are going to get adopted right away.”

AGoldPhoto Pet Photography was on hand to capture the stunning before and after shots, and the resulting images were shared on social media to increase awareness of the pups’ impending availability.

“Most of the Havanese dogs will be available for adoption tomorrow!” the shelter wrote on Feb. 11. “If you think you would like to give one of these dogs and warm and loving home, they are here waiting ❤️”

At least one happy owner posted photos of one of the adoptees, Wendy, who looks clean, content and super comfy in her new digs. Fortunately, these pups have been fixed up and should have a lifetime of comfortable happiness ahead of them.
