Owner Bursts Out Laughing When She Finds Baby Koala Nestled on Top of Golden Retriever
If our pets could talk, we would definitely hear some interesting stories. Short of a real-life Dr. Dolittle, though, the best we can do is piece facts together and try to figure out what’s gone on in their lives.
For a golden retriever named Asha from Victoria, Australia, there are more questions than answers.
Kerry McKinnon, Asha’s owner, woke up to a surprising situation last month. Her husband told her to come look at something.
Her dogs were out on the porch — but they weren’t the only critters snuggled together on the deck. Perched atop Asha was a little grey fluff looking back at McKinnon with a rather quizzical expression.
“I didn’t know what he was talking about at first but then I saw this tiny koala snuggled on top of Asha,” she told Metro.
“I just burst out laughing. Poor Asha didn’t know what to think, she just kept looking at me with such a confused look.”
McKinnon snapped some photos, still shocked that there was a baby koala clinging to her good-natured pup. Taking to Facebook, she posted the photos and a short explanation.
“Asha looked extremely guilty this morning and couldn’t come up with an explanation on how this baby ended up on her back,” she wrote.
“Took bub to the vets and she’s now been passed onto a Koala carer. Hopefully we find out how she goes.”
In the comments, McKinnon explained that she had no idea how the baby had gotten to Asha. She recalled that the evening before, Asha had been barking at something, but that she hadn’t paid much attention to it.
No sign of momma, either, which is probably why the joey chose Asha as a surrogate. It was a good thing, too: The temperatures drop dangerously low for a baby during the night and there are plenty of predators around, so clinging to Asha is probably what saved the baby’s life.
McKinnon said that when she picked the joey up to wrap it in a blanket, it was not having it and kept hissing at her, much preferring Asha to this Strange Human.
Fortunately, McKinnon was able to both document this charming interaction and get the baby koala into specialist hands. Meanwhile, we’ll have to keep wondering how this meeting originally took place, because Asha’s not saying anything.
