Hateful Note Left on Mother's Car After Stranger Sees Her Carry Sick Son into Hospital

Share

Mothers generally know their children best. In many cases, they’re the ones who spend the most time with their little ones and have a unique bond that goes far beyond what can be seen.

Strangers can observe their interactions, but they can’t speak to the depths of that bond. They don’t know what that particular child’s hopes, dreams or struggles are.

And yet, in many cases, they somehow still find themselves able to make judgment calls based on their assumptions. Those calls can hurt, in spite of the fact that they may be totally incorrect.

Time and time again we’ve heard stories like this one — when will these nasty note-writers start to accept that there’s more to other humans than meets the eye?

A mom from Wigan, England, 31-year-old Emma Doherty, found a note on her car after taking her sick young son to an appointment.

Someone had watched her carry her son into the hospital. Doherty’s car was sporting a handicap placard, but whoever was watching thought it was bogus, as — based on his or her “professional” opinion — neither Doherty nor her son was actually sick.

As Doherty was inside getting her son to his MRI and CT scans, this nameless cynic penned a rather harsh note and left it on the offending vehicle.

Doherty came out to the message waiting for her. “You lazy conning b—-,” the note read. “You did not have a disabled person with you! These spaces are reserved for people who need them!!!”

It’s one thing to assume another person’s health, but it’s an entirely different matter to start name-calling and accusing someone of being lazy and manipulative.

“To the person who put this on my car which I had put my disabled badge fully on show I’m not angry at your pure ignorance I’m actually upset with it,” Doherty later posted on Facebook. “How dare you ever accuse anyone of not needing a disabled badge without knowing.”

“I promise to get the stigma away from people with disabled badges who don’t ‘look disabled’ I hope this gets shared and back to you and you will see my son is terminally ill he’s had over 15 operations 3 open hearts, 2 stomach, lung and diaphragm and countless artery stenting operations and spent half his life on intensive care.”

“He’s had 2 strokes and was paralyzed, brain damaged and has a spine and hip condition as well as a massive heart condition.”

She explained that they were running late for his appointment, so she’d left the wheelchair in the car and opted to carry her boy into the hospital.

“Because it’s your pure ignorance towards others I’m a single mum trying my best to hold it together for my son who’s in and out (of) hospital,” she continued.

“NOT ALL DISABILITIES ARE (VISIBLE) and I hope you regret doing this and learn your lesson! I knew something would be said one day as everyday I get looks and stares and see people whispering to each other about me and Bobby walking from the car.”

Hopefully, this message will get back to the person who posted the note. Some have suggested that, based on the handwriting, the writer may have been a left-handed female.

While it may be admirable that he or she was trying to protect handicapped people, the writer needs to know that not all conditions are apparent, and they may end up harming the very people they’re attempting to stand up for.
