Grandma Laughs So Hard She Can't Breathe While Reading Grandson Hilarious Book

Share

When you have kids, you are overwhelmed with a whole new world of impossible choices. How will you raise them? Screen time or no screen time? How many toys? What kind of rules will you instate?

One of the safer entertainment choices — and educator-approved — is books. Few parents disagree with having their kids exposed to books at a young age, and the benefits are numerous.

But, of course, the words in a book are no good to a young kiddo who can’t yet read. Reading aloud is a bridge to connect an adult with the child: an opportunity for bonding, learning and discovery.

In one video that has gone viral, the kid isn’t the one getting the most enjoyment out of the text. Nope. The reader, though — that’s another story altogether.

The video opens on a grandmother and her grandchild, whose gaze bobbles about without really landing on anything or recognizing the book for what it is. Intent on starting the babe young, though, grandma powers forward and reads to the apathetic child.

What she discovers is hilarious. The book, “The Wonky Donkey,” written by Craig Smith and illustrated by Katz Cowley, has her in stitches almost from the get-go.

Amazon promises that this book will be a smash hit with kids — but they may need to change that to say grandmas, Scottish grandmas, or kids of all ages.

“Children will be in fits of laughter with this perfect read-aloud tale of an endearing donkey,” the page states. “By the book’s final page, readers end up with a spunky, hanky-panky, cranky, stinky, dinky, lanky, honky-tonky, winky wonky donkey!”

Grandma loses it time and again, but steels herself to make it all the way to the last page. “Oh, this is going to kill me!” she howls at one point.

“Ah! I have to finish this!” she says at another, sniffling and trying to clear her throat.

Do you have a favorite children's book?

Viewers have loved this grandma’s sense of humor, and the video has worked as a powerful advertisement for the book — which, according to some comments, has been out of print for a while, but because of this video it might be making a comeback.

“Good old Scottish sense of humor,” wrote one viewer. “I loved to see her reaction. I’m still rolling on the floor laughing. Thanks for sharing. And, I noticed how bored her grandson appeared. Obviously, the nursery book is really intended for grandparents who need a laugh.”

“Love how she just HAD to finish the book!” wrote another. “Made my morning (and I am currently waiting for a tow truck)! It is powerful laughter medicine!”

“Omg my stomach hurts from laughing so hard,” yet a third chimed in. “This is the best thing I’ve seen today. Thanks for the deep gut laughter.”

What do you think: Does this book deserve a spot on your child, grandchild or great-grandchild’s bookshelf?
