Girl Heartbroken When She Finds Out Dream Puppy Already Sold, Stunned When They Say it's Hers
Everyone remembers when they got their first pet, especially if it was something as significant as a puppy. The excitement of going to pick a puppy out of a litter or the joy of being surprised with one is one of the best feelings in the world.
But if there’s an element of doubt involved, it can mess with everything and send you on a roller coaster of emotions.
Whether you have your eye on a pup for sale or one that’s up for adoption, you never know when someone else might also take a shine to “your” dog and swoop in before you can.
The family of one 10-year-old named Maddy used this conundrum to their advantage. They must have seen been visiting the Long Island, New York, Selmer’s Pet Land when they spotted the fluffy orange pup.
Selmer’s Pet Land states on their website that they offer AKC registered pups and designer dogs. Not all pet stores do their work to make sure their puppies are healthy, happy, and from legitimate breeders, but there are some out there. Some pet stores have even moved to only offering adoptable dogs, which helps out many homeless animals.
You may have experienced a similar situation yourself: You need a puppy fix, so you go somewhere puppies are “just to look.” But it’s very hard to just look.
Mom Kelly Crocco ironed out the details, secretly purchasing the puppy and then taking her family back in to see the pup without telling Maddy.
Maddy’s older sister seemed to be in on the lighthearted prank and surprise, but Maddy was blissfully unaware as she got into the shop and went directly to a pen at the back of the store, where “her” puppy was.
The older sister made sure to point out the sale tag, which presumably had a “Sold” sign on it. She really got into it, covering her mouth and acting surprised as Maddy wilted under the reality of the situation as she knew it to be.
“She’s sold!” Maddy says, eyes wide, as someone — probably her mother — films. As she reaches down to pet the puppy she believes she’ll never see again, her older sister eyes the filmer and turns away with a stifled smile.
“Oh, that’s okay,” the person behind the camera says. “She’ll remember you, you think?”
“Yeah,” Maddy quickly answers. After a few more moments, mom can’t contain the information anymore.
“Maddy? She’s sold to us.”
Maddy looks up, eyes even wider than before. But she refuses to believe it: She thinks they’re playing a cruel trick on her. But the trick isn’t cruel.
After they reassure her that the little critter is theirs, the girl breaks down crying, but she’s still not convinced yet. After some sobbing, she looks up through a break in the tears to warn “If you’re kidding right now I’m going to kill you actually. No… no! You’re kidding!”
But it becomes clear that the puppy is theirs, and the girls begin discussing names and future plans. With that much love and the careful way they handle the puppy, this dog should have a good life ahead of it!
