Clever Man Hands Cop Fresh Donut, Gets Out Of Speeding Ticket
Cops and doughnuts have a long and storied history. The two go hand-in-hand, and there are a multitude of jokes surrounding the stereotype.
Doughnut shops used to be places where cops could hang out late at night to do paperwork or other work that necessitated a place to sit.
The fact that there were also pastries involved was just a bonus, but a mutually beneficial one for both cops and shops.
June 1 was National Doughnut Day, and many people — including cops — celebrated. A video from June 1 has been going around, and has been causing a stir.
It starts with a man filming a motorcycle cop walking toward him while he sits in his car. It’s clear he’s been pulled over.
“Is it OK if I film you, sir?” the man asked the cop as he drew near. “I’m just kinda nervous around police officers.”
“No sir, that’s quite alright,” the cop responded. “The reason I’m stopping you is for speeding, sir. Were you aware you were going that fast?”
“No sir, I didn’t,” the man said. “Now let me ask you something, officer. Are you aware that today is National Doughnut Day?”
The cop seemed confused by the question, so the driver repeated it. “Are you aware it’s National Doughnut Day?”
“No sir, I’m not,” said the cop, grinning.
“Is there any way you could do a warning?” the man asked. But the cop said no, and that the speeding rules were strictly enforced.
Seemingly done with the banter, the cop asked for the driver’s license. “Yes sir no problem, hang on just one second,” replied the man.
“And here you go sir,” said the man, holding out a pink doughnut with sprinkles. “Will this work for you? I can’t seem to find my license, but…”
The cop looked at the doughnut, looked to his left and to his right, took the doughnut and left the man with a “You have a good day, sir.”
There were cries of “so staged” and “fake” from the viewers. But as with most posts on the internet, it’s difficult to tell whether or not viewers actually watched the whole thing all the way through.
“I heard about this,” one commenter wrote. “That cop actually lost his job due to bribery. Seems like his department was also strict on enforcing laws upon their own officer.”
Bribery is certainly no joke, but this whole setup was a joke, and not meant to be taken seriously.
Fulshear Police Department originally posted the video themselves, which many people could not tell — even though there were signs.
First of all, a cop accepting a doughnut in lieu of a license? Yeah right. The smile that the officer was sporting was a little too constant, and the reflection in his sunglasses showed the car he pulled over was a cop car.
“It literally says it was a joke in honor of national doughnut day!” a commenter wrote. “Omg so no he didnt loose his job or anything cause clearly it was a joke and clearly he knew which car to pull over. READ PEOPLE READ!”
Still an amusing and good-natured short extolling the virtues of the doughnut.
