Age 6 Boy That Made Meghan Markle a Macaroni Necklace Is Getting Orders from Around the World

Fashion is a strange thing. Each culture and time has their own unique obsession with it, but it seems that humans have always been fans of looking good and feeling good by wearing whatever is deemed “popular” or “classic” during their particular time.

There are definite cycles, with certain styles coming back into vogue decades later — but usually with enough of a twist that wear from the previous phase will read more as “outdated” than “hip.”

But who gets to decide these trends? Well, sometimes 6-year-olds do, according to this particular story.

While visiting Australia with Harry, the Duchess of Sussex received a very special gift from a young man named Gavin Hazelwood. It was a handmade necklace: black ribbon with white stitching along the sides, a handful of macaroni strung onto it.

But this wasn’t ordinary macaroni. Gavin used dinosaur macaroni, and painted the pieces gold before assembling the necklace.

When offered the handmade gift, the Duchess thanked Gavin for it and promptly donned it. The statement piece stood out against her ensemble, which included a navy dress and $815 Manolo Blahnik pumps.

While Meghan obviously appreciated this young artist’s gesture, this was also an incredibly savvy business move on young Hazelwood’s part, as he has now been sent requests by people from Australia, the UK and the US.

“We had a lot of people saying to Gavin, you should make more, you’ll make lots of money from this, everybody will want to buy her necklace,” mom Rowan Hazelwood told Network 10.

And he’s delivering. He’s set up a miniature operation to craft these one-of-a-kind necklaces, and his parents have started a website for them.

The boy’s not doing this for himself, though. All the profits are being donated to charity that deals with a topic the Hazelwoods are familiar with.

Unfortunately, the Hazelwoods have experienced loss in the form of a baby sister gone too soon. Rowan Hazelwood says that the little one is still a part of their everyday lives, and she is gone but not forgotten.

In light of this, the family has chosen to donate the profits from the $20 necklaces to a stillborn research charity, where the money will be put to good use.

And isn’t that what notoriety should be used for anyway — to make the lives of those around us a little better? Thanks to a 6-year-old, a Duchess and some dinosaur macaroni, there’s a little more good in the world.
