We Knew It: Violent 'Student' Protests in France Actually Fueled By 'Ultra Left' Underground Faction
Hey, remember that whole violent spate of riots that engulfed France that we were told was a spontaneous uprising because a bunch of students were really upset that their classrooms weren’t up to snuff?
Yeah, it turns out that while there may have been some students involved, French investigators are now zeroing in on an “ultra left” cell that lives off the grid for a majority of the most egregious episodes, including the now-iconic burning of the historic Limoges City Hall.
Who could have possibly guessed?
According to a report in Wednesday’s Wall Street Journal, authorities have arrested 34-year-old Hodei Ciarra Docampo in the arson and other acts of violence during the month-long protests.
He’s described as an “environmental activist” by the outlet’s Matthew Dalton, although social media reports indicate he was one of those omnicause types, expressing support for Black Lives Matter, the 2018 “Yellow Vest” riots, and (does it even need to be said?) the pro-Palestinian movement.

Perhaps most damning is the fact that French authorities already had him on their radar — along with a cell of other environmentalist revolutionaries living off the grid in a remote area of the country. From The Wall Street Journal:
Authorities say Ciarra Docampo, his family and the community that has gathered around them are part of an “ultra left” faction that they blame for fueling the riots that have swept France. French police describe the ultra left as a loose collection of activists with a range of causes, including radical environmentalists, self-styled antifascists and anti-Israel militants. They are united by a willingness to use violence — or at least condone it — against the authority of the state.
Ciarra Docampo is dangerous, authorities say. He was flagged as a security threat in a secret French government database of people deemed to be extremists. In 2024, he was convicted of hitting a police officer during protests against a wood pellet factory, receiving a one-year suspended sentence…
What began as a protest by high-school students seeking better schools has morphed into a widespread and sometimes violent expression of anger against the French establishment. Far-left activists have led violent clashes with the police. Looters have exploited the chaos surrounding the protests.
Imagine our collective surprise. It’s almost like we lived through this before, when organized looting by leftist groups was painted as “fiery but mostly peaceful protests” against “systemic racism” touched off by the death of George Floyd.
They didn’t even need someone to die for the “fiery but mostly peaceful” line to come back in the French riots.
Pascal Godrie, the mayor of a collection of cities that includes Bussiere-Boffy, said that these are leftist hooligans who can’t really be reached.
“These are people who live in their own world, whom you can’t approach,” he said. “To be implicated in the burning of a city hall is awful.”

Oh, so I guess better classrooms aren’t going to stop these people?
The narrative behind these omnicause riots is always the same: A bunch of good-hearted people assembled to make a change for the better, but then some people did something, not a lot of them, and a bunch of right-wingers pounced and made it all about some itty bitty destruction.
And what’s a little bit of property torched when you mean well?
We’re six years on from the Summer of Floyd™, which should have taught the world how modern organized left-wing rioting works.
We still haven’t learned it in America, where the left has been successfully lionized the social media groups dedicated to intimidating and harassing federal law enforcement agents for enforcing the law.
And they haven’t learned it in France, where most politicians still say there are a few hard-left bad apples among a bunch of students who just want better study conditions and believe they will get them, if their actions are any indication, by breaking into Louis Vuitton stores.
It’s the progressive left omnicause. It’s always the progressive left omnicause. And you can’t make them happy or reason with them, period.
