James Woods Shows No Mercy with Devastating First Tweet Since Being Placed in Twitter Jail

Share

As you may have heard, James Woods — the man, the myth, the 280-characters-or-less legend — is out of Twitter jail. His tweet in September of a months-old meme was removed by the social media giant, albeit without his permission.

I guess one of @jack’s functionaries thought that would give both sides a victory, which should probably tell you just where Twitter’s head is at.

Woods, you may not be surprised to know, returned with a bang, not a whimper.

No obsequious thank-you cards to the tech bros holding the digital velvet rope at Twitter HQ — nothing like that. Instead, he decided to point out Twitter’s shifting position on explaining why he was banned in just four images.

“So @Twitter sent an unsolicited email explaining THEY would delete the ‘offending’ tweet for which I was locked out and which I refused to delete,” Woods tweeted Friday.

“As a conservative I am not about to walk on eggshells because of Twitter’s bias or liberal insanity in general.”

Here, for those of you who don’t remember, was the offending tweet:

Is Woods teaching Twitter a lesson here?

Both were clearly meant in jest — and I know scads of people who retweeted the meme without getting locked out of their account.

Alas, to the suzerains at Twitter, passing along the faux advertisement meant James Woods had crossed the line. They just weren’t certain which line.

First he was influencing elections — kind of like Russian bots, but way worse, because who could tell that an aged meme that nobody actually believed was real was in fact a sardonic jape at the grievance politics of the Democrats? (If only the Russians had thought of that…):

Okay, so that was about as believable as an Andy Kaufman comeback rumor. What other officious-sounding twaddle could they come up with to make it sound like he’d actually broken the terms of service?

Oh yes, that complaint from the rightsholder (sic). The “rightsholder” who hadn’t been identified when he got banned.

If fair use isn’t allowed on Twitter, its going to have to start banning a lot more than just James Woods.

But Woods isn’t buying it. Woods’ return Tweet makes it clear that this has nothing to do with rights-holders or meddling in elections or anything besides the fact he’s the highest-profile conservative Hollywood star on Twitter and, well, why the heck not ban him and make cede to the capricious whims of @jack and his censorious hirelings?

Well, Woods is back. And if you’ve ever seen any of his movies, he’s not really the type of guy you want to get angry like this.

At least this writer is wholeheartedly looking forward to Mr. Woods cracking some digital eggshells.
