Heartbroken Daughter of Luke Perry Releases First Statement Since Star's Sudden Death
Fans are filled with sorrow after actor Luke Perry suddenly passed away on March 4 from a massive stroke.
His daughter, 18-year-old Sophie Perry, has made her first statement since her father’s passing, posting a photo of herself with her father on her Instagram account.
“A lot has happened in this past week for me. Everything is happening so fast,” Sophie wrote.
“I made it back from Malawi just in time to be here with my family, And in the past 24 hours I have received an overwhelming amount of love and support.
“I cannot individually respond to the hundreds of beautiful and heartfelt messages, but I see them, and appreciate you all for sending positivity to my family and I.”
Sophie is the youngest of Perry’s children; she has an older brother, Jack Perry, who is 21. Their mother is Perry’s ex-wife Rachel “Minnie” Sharp who was married to Perry from 1993 to 2003.
Sophie has kept a relatively low profile over the years and shared a close bond with her father. She would occasionally share a photo of herself with her dad, including a sweet prom photo from June 2018, which showed off her yellow prom dress while her dad planted a kiss on her cheek.
Sophie was in Malawi, Africa, at the time of Perry’s stroke, working on community development projects, according to a September Instagram post.
When she learned that her father was dying, she immediately made the 20-hour flight back to Los Angeles to be with him and the rest of her family during her father’s last moments.
“I’m not really sure what to say or do in this situation, it’s something you aren’t ever given a lesson on how to handle, especially when it’s all happening in the public eye,” Sophie wrote. “ So bear with me and know that I am grateful for all the love. Just, being grateful quietly.”
