Former ICE Chief Teaches Nancy Pelosi Lesson in Why Border Wall Will Really Work

Share

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has made her feelings on President Donald Trump’s border wall abundantly clear in recent months.

The California Democrat described the wall as “obnoxious,” unsightly and unnecessary in a civilized society back in March. And yes, plenty of jokes have been made that you could use those same words to describe Pelosi.

But as easy and fun as it is to blast Pelosi, her rhetoric and beliefs are tangibly dangerous to the American democracy. That’s not a laughing matter.

Take, for example, the ongoing government shutdown thanks in part to Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s abject refusal to provide funding to the wall and border security.

It’s a horrific dereliction of duty from the Democratic leaders.

Surely they must have a better explanation than the one provided in March to explain why the government isn’t functioning over issues of border security? Not really.

“He talked about terrorists coming in over that particular border, which wasn’t so. He talked about people bringing in diseases and all the rest of that, which wasn’t so,” Pelosi told USA Today in an interview, referring to the president. “He’s using scare tactics that are not evidence-based, and it’s wrong.”

Pelosi also slammed Trump for “being a fear monger” while attempting to make a joke about his evolving ideas over the most effective type of border wall.

“First of all, the fact … that he says, ‘We’re going to build a wall with cement, and Mexico’s going to pay for it,’ while he’s already backed off of the cement — now he’s down to, I think, a beaded curtain or something, I’m not sure where he is,” Pelosi said.

Despite the fact that any American with a shred of logic and who understands the importance of border security could dispute Pelosi’s anti-wall stance, it’s nice to have someone with some real credentials step in and do some heavy hitting.

Enter Tom Homan, a former director of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency and Fox News contributor, to rip apart Pelosi’s position with something Democrats may not be familiar with: facts and cold, hard numbers.

“Every place a wall or barrier has been built, it has resulted in decreased illegal immigration, decreased drug smuggling. One hundred percent of the time, it has proven effective,” Homan said during a Wednesday appearance on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends.”

“Look at the rest of the data on the border, where arrests of MS-13 (gang members) this year are up 118 percent, the seizures of fentanyl — for God’s sake — are up almost 200 percent. There’s your data,” Homan continued.

After Pelosi’s USA Today comments were recited, Homan dropped some more data on the Democrats.

“Allow me to educate Mrs. Pelosi,” he said. “As far as crime coming across the border, ICE arrested 138,000 criminals last year. These are people who entered the country illegally and committed crimes against the people of this country.”

Do you support Trump's effort to build a wall on the nation's southern border?

Terrifyingly, Homan also recounted a situation where when he was with ICE, the agency detained an illegal immigrant who “had a strain of (tuberculosis) we couldn’t even treat.” ICE had to work with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to try to treat the man for months, which is an obvious strain on the taxpayers.

“Can you imagine if that strain of TB would’ve gotten released into the American society?” Homan asked.

The seven-minute clip is a brilliant takedown of Pelosi. You’d think she would change her rhetoric after being mercilessly roasted by everyone from Homan to Trump on such a frequent basis.

Then again, learning and growing aren’t exactly hallmarks of the Democrats in 2018.
