Fit Mom Fires Back After Cruel Critics Accuse Her of Photoshopping Her Stomach

Share

Pregnancy is a challenge for anyone. From cravings to cramps, carrying a tiny human for nine months is certainly not anyone’s idea of comfort.

But for those of us who have experienced the joy of feeling that baby moving on the inside, we know all the aches and weight gain and constant need to empty our bladders is worth it.

Then comes an even bigger challenge: postpartum life. If we thought being awakened at midnight with a little belly kick kept us up, we have never known exhaustion like all-nighters with our newborns.

Add to that the housework. Maybe there are other kids in the house. Maybe we even have full-time jobs. Who has time to worry about getting back into shape?

But we do worry, don’t we? We look in the mirror at our sagging skin and stretch marks and wonder if it will ever get better.

Perhaps we even ask if there’s a point to working out. We’ll never really look as we once did pre-pregnancy.

One Australian mom and fitness guru believes differently. Emily Skye is of the mindset that moms shouldn’t be so hard on themselves and that stretched out skin is even something to be proud of.

Do you strive to be this confident in yourself?

“I’m proud of what it represents,” she wrote on Instagram. “I grew a human in this belly & the whole process into motherhood has made me SO much stronger.”

I cherish moments like these with @BabyMiaElise before bed time.?? I’ve been learning how to have balance with my business and being a mum. I’ve always been really goal driven and while being a mum is my priority I also have a lot of career goals I want to achieve as well. I believe I can do both very well but the way to do it is by having structure and routine as well as prioritising. My time has to be used even more wisely now that I’m a parent and if I don’t manage my time properly I find I always run out of time – I swear it goes faster now?! ?? . Life changes all the time and so do our circumstances. I believe that if we want to accomplish dreams and goals while also enjoying the process we need to learn to adapt the best we can to these changes. Whenever we make changes it usually requires us to come out of our comfort zone which is never easy but we are more than capable. I’m not good at time management & having structure but I’m determined to make changes so I can become good at them so I can achieve my goals and be the best mum I can be as well! ? . P.S. I simply couldn’t resist these matching Llama PJ’s. I love Llamas and think they’re the cutest and funniest animals. ?? .

Her viral side-by-side post has been liked over 107,300 times as of Tuesday morning. One side of the photo shows the mom with a smooth and toned belly.

The other half reveals her saggy, wrinkled skin. She decided to show both at once for a reason, but this isn’t the first time Skye has shown off her fit mom figure.

Multiple posts on her Instagram account reveal photos of her wrinkled skin postpartum. According to Skye, it’s all about the lighting and the way she stands.

One photo from July 2018 even gave followers an up close and personal look at her stomach. “In certain lighting and positions you can see them but most of the time you can’t,” she writes.

What you don’t see in the left pic is my cellulite & loose/stretched skin. So I zoomed in to show you in high definition! ? In certain lighting and positions you can see them but most of the time you can’t. The more you look for these so called “flaws” in yourself or others the more you’ll find! My advice is to stop looking for them! ??? I’ve noticed a fair amount of comments from women saying things like “you didn’t get any loose skin or stretch marks from being pregnant” – I did, but they’re just not obvious unless I take a close up pic like this! I couldn’t care less if my tummy stays like this forever – I’m proud of my body and love it for everything it does, ESPECIALLY for growing my little Mia. ??? Some stretch marks, loose skin, or cellulite don’t make me love my body any less – quite the opposite actually. ? . Striving for mental and physical health and being the best I can is my priority and I hope it’s your priority too. ? . Remember, it’s not about who has it worse or who has it “easy” – those arguments will never help you, in fact they usually become excuses that prevent you from working towards the things you really want in life. Don’t give up on yourself before you even try! Dont compare your journey, body, life etc. to anyone else’s – focus on your own journey and be proud of everything you achieve. You are capable and you are worthy. ??? . . 6.5 months postpartum ? . .

Her posts constantly encourage other moms to embrace their bodies and stop looking for the little flaws in themselves.

Sadly, some have shamed the fit mom and accused her of photoshopping her toned belly. But if this was so, why would she bother showing off her wrinkles in the first place?

“Some have accused (me) of photoshopping it out,” she writes. “I just wanted to show that how I stand, whether I’m flexing & what light I’m in either highlights my excess belly skin or hides it! And I don’t mind either way which is why I post both.”

Saggy, wrinkly belly skin – sometimes you can see it and other times you can’t. . A lot of ladies have been asking where it’s gone in some of my pics & videos & some have accused my of photoshopping it out. – I just wanted to show that how I stand, whether I’m flexing & what light I’m in either highlights my excess belly skin or hides it! – And I don’t mind either way which is why I post both. ☺️ . Is it weird that I’m actually proud of it? I’m proud of what it represents I guess. I grew a human in this belly & the whole process into motherhood has made me SO much stronger and also so much more confident in myself and my body. I couldn’t care less whether the stretched skin stays or goes! It’s such an insignificant thing in my eyes. . ?? Ladies please stop being so hard on yourselves, nobody is perfect and having some extra skin, stretch marks, cellulite or whatever else doesn’t make you any less beautiful or amazing! ?? I posted a video about this in my story today but thought I’d make a post about it too because I think it’s so important to talk about. ? Sending love to you all. ? . . #emilyskye #fitfam #1yearpostpartum #mumbod #mombod

In the end, Skye seems to believe it’s all about loving the body you have, being healthy and working toward your goals.

“Nobody is perfect,” she says. “And having some extra skin, stretch marks, cellulite or whatever else doesn’t make you any less beautiful or amazing!”

Amen to that! Thank you for sharing with confidence, Emily Skye. Your words are inspiring and much needed for any mom who is down on herself or her body.
