Dad Left Bawling in Hospital When Bride Daughter Walks in Door on Wedding Day

A wedding involves a lot of stress for everyone who has to make an appearance at the ceremony. The bride typically bears the brunt of the strain, but no one escapes unscathed.

The last thing you need is for someone to come down with an illness. But it still happens from time to time.

Unfortunately, for Ohio resident Steve Price, it happened at the worst possible moment. According to WBNS, Price is the father of four daughters.

Knowing that there would be weddings in their future, he took a 100-year-old hay barn and spiffed it up so it would positively shine. There were two problems, though.

The first was that, while some of his kids had enjoyed wedding receptions in the structure, none had actually taken their vows there — at least until his daughter Janea planned to in August. Then Price ran smack into the second problem: Right before the wedding, he fell ill.

“A week after returning home from Nashville, my dad got acutely ill and was rushed to the hospital,” Janea wrote on Love What Matters. “Unexpectedly, he was diagnosed with acute pancreatitis.

“It ended up spiraling into a very severe case. He has been hospitalized for three weeks and faced several serious complications despite aggressive medical treatment.”

Janea soon realized that her dad wasn’t going to make it to the ceremony. She thought of postponing her wedding, but Price said, “You’re getting married whether I’m there or not.”

So Janea went on with the wedding, but she had a plan. She told People that “I was going to somehow get down to the hospital without a doubt.”

Two hour prior to the ceremony, the bride sneaked into Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio, and hatched a plan. Price’s nurse told him he needed to get an X-ray.

Yet when he was wheeled out of his room, he found his daughter waiting for him in her wedding dress. She had saved the first dance — their father/daughter dance — for him.

The pair gingerly swayed to Darius Rucker’s ” It Won’t Be Like This For Long.” Janea said, “He bawled his eyes out.

“He kept telling us how beautiful we looked. He was so happy we were there.”

Then Price sent her off, saying, “You go get married now!” However, his part in the ceremony wasn’t over.

The family saved a special place for a couple of internet-connected iPads, one of which stayed at Price’s bedside and the other of which had a place at the wedding. Price got to watch the whole thing thanks to a live video feed.

“We all felt at peace that my dad was able to see us,” Janea said. “[The wedding] was amazing. …

“I would’ve rather he been there. But, given the circumstances, it was absolutely beautiful.”
