Woman Cleans Up Crime-Ridden Neighborhood, Fatally Shoots Robber on Her Way to Church

Share

When heading out for church, the last thing anyone would be thinking about is having to protect their own life and that of their loved ones. But on Sunday, three women were confronted with such a scenario.

WJBK, Fox 2 in Detroit, reported that three Detroit women, ages 75, 55, and 29, were simply leaving their home for church when they were approached by a man. He forced the women back inside the house.

Thinking and acting quickly, the 55-year-old woman grabbed a gun that was inside the home and fired two shots at the intruder. At least one of the rounds hit the man in the chest and killed him.

The Associated Press reported that the man was pronounced dead at the scene. He was believed to be in his 30s, but was not identified immediately.

Perhaps why a gun was kept in the house and how the woman had such good aim in the midst of an adrenaline-fueled, frightening situation can be explained by an interview WJBK did with a neighbor.

Check out the coverage here:

Neighborhood resident Lashunda Craig gave insight into why someone who lived in the area might buy a gun and perhaps get trained to use it.

Craig explained that the neighborhood was a danger zone of sorts. And because so many elderly individuals and single moms lived there, she thought that made them even more of a target.

She’d even been hit with a robbery of her own home. Fortunately she and her two daughters were away when it occurred.

“Something else happened again, it’s pretty normal over here,” she told the station. “My house was broke into less than a month ago. I try to keep them away from my own home as much as possible, but that’s what we have to do.”

She added that she tries to stay alert for danger.

“Watch your back, like I’m on the corner,” she said, referring to her home’s location on the street. “I got trees and woods … They could be waiting anywhere for you.”

When asked if she thought you could make the same choice to shoot an intruder, she answered affirmatively.

“Yes, I don’t own a gun but if I did and they were in my house yes.”

The woman who did pull the trigger and kill an intruder will not be charged since the incident was deemed self-defense.

There is a saying that goes something like “When seconds count, the police are just minutes away.” Incidents like this are examples of what that means.

Do you believe the 55-year-old woman did the right thing?

In the midst of danger, the 55-year-old woman made a choice not to be a victim. She chose to do what she could to protect herself and her loved ones.

In a neighborhood where crime is reportedly fairly common, which could mean police have not been able to clean things up, residents are making the choice as to how best to protect themselves rather than hope the government will do it for them. In the case of the three women who were targeted on Sunday, at least one of them made the choice for self-defense.

Her choice and courage could have saved all of their lives. Perhaps it will also be an example to others in the neighborhood, as well as a warning to any punks thinking about targeting the area:

Stay away. Whatever you might steal from the residents there isn’t worth your life.
