Watch: Melania's Reaction When Student Embarrasses Himself is Pure Class
“I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it.”
That quote has been attributed to theologian Charles R. Swindoll, but it was just demonstrated on the national stage by none other than first lady Melania Trump.
During an event where more than a dozen young students met with the first lady in the White House “Blue Room,” one of the youngsters made a clumsy mistake as the camera rolled — but Mrs. Trump showed genuine class by quickly responding to the faux pas with grace.
According to Fox News, a group of middle-school students were asked to write how they were feeling on a board in the Blue Room.
A young boy wrote that he felt “energized” before accidentally knocking over a glass of water.

A loud “clank” of a falling glass can be heard in video of the incident, and the boy’s face revealed that he was instantly embarrassed and unsure of what to do.
It was one of those mistakes that everyone makes from time to time, but it’s easy to imagine how mortified the kid was feeling as all eyes — and all cameras — were on him.
That’s when Trump’s demeanor quickly changed, and the nation got a glimpse at a side of the elegant former model that is rarely seen.
The first lady immediately smiled, told the boy, “No problem,” and stepped forward to place her hand on his shoulder in reassurance.
“Don’t worry, it’s just a water, OK?” she said.
It was a compassionate moment that showed the first lady’s motherly side, a part of her that is certainly seen behind closed doors with her own young son but is often hidden from the public.
The sweet moment wasn’t exactly the most dramatic episode in American history, but even this small incident says a lot about Melania Trump … and perhaps more importantly, about how the first family is portrayed by the mainstream media.
America’s first lady has faced a sea of criticism for her accent — English is not her first language — and reserved demeanor in public.
For example, BBC’s “Newsbeat” section once ran a story echoing the tongue-in-cheek internet theory that the first lady might be a robot. Remember, this was the British Broadcasting Corporation, one of the most respected names in international news.
More recently, no-so-funnyman Jimmy Kimmel derided the first lady for her manner of speaking, leading to a backlash against the liberal late-night host for being callous.
And let’s not forget the cruelty shown toward Barron Trump and other family members by Kathy Griffin and so many others who think of themselves as “entertainers.”
It’s clear that many pundits, especially on the left, see Melania Trump not as a person, but as some sort of pastiche for them to mock. As this viral video shows, she is a woman of class, a mother, and someone who hasn’t let success and power stop her from being down to earth.
Trump’s kind reaction is an important reminder of how we should act toward others… and a hint to the first family’s critics to remember there are human beings on the other end of their ire.
