Watch: Feinstein's Rant Shows What Democrats' Kavanaugh Grandstanding Is Really About
The Senate Judiciary Committee commenced with confirmation hearings on the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court by President Donald Trump on Tuesday, and it immediately turned into a circus-like fiasco.
Democrats wasted no time in demanding that the hearings be canceled or delayed, ostensibly over a failure of authorities to produce thousands of requested documents from Kavanaugh’s time in the former Bush White House … but in reality, because Kavanaugh was nominated by Trump.
It was further revealed, in light of the opening statement by ranking Democrat Sen. Diane Feinstein, that Democrat opposition to Kavanaugh’s nomination was deeply rooted in ideological differences, not a lack of unrelated and privileged documentary paperwork, as has been suggested.
Feinstein focused on two issues deemed priorities by Democrats — abortion and gun control — and expressed her fervent belief that Kavanaugh would rule unfavorably against the liberal positions on cases related to those issues.

On the topic of abortion, Feinstein referenced a recent case out of Texas in which Kavanaugh had authored a dissenting opinion and suggested that a young woman should have been barred from obtaining an abortion even as she had complied with the state’s parental notification laws and received approval from a judge.
“In making your argument, you ignored and, I believe, mischaracterized the Supreme Court precedent,” Feinstein said. “You reasoned that Jane Doe should not be unable to exercise her right to choose because she did not have family and friends to make her decision.”
“The argument rewrites Supreme Court precedent, and if adopted, we believe would require courts to determine whether young women had a sufficient support network when making her decision, even in cases where she has gone to court,” she continued. “This reason — we believe, I believe — demonstrates that you are willing to disregard precedent, and if that’s the case — because just saying something is ‘settled law,’ it really is, is it correct law.”
“The impact of overturning (Roe v. Wade) is much broader than a woman’s right to choose,” Feinstein said. “It’s about protecting the most personal decisions we all make from government intrusion.”
Feinstein proceeded to link the “choice” precedent set by Roe with the Court’s rulings on gay marriage, school choice (really?), end-of-life medical care as well as family planning decisions … all of which she ironically — considering she is a progressive Democrat — viewed as “a bulwark” against government intrusions into the private lives of Americans.
The senator later turned her attention to the topic of gun control laws, gun violence and school shootings, and suggested that there would be more victims of gun violence and school shootings if the Court were to adopt Kavanaugh’s views on the Second Amendment … essentially blaming him for future deaths that may or may not occur.

After she rattled off several gun violence and school shooting related statistics, Feinstein said, “I care a lot about this, I authored the ‘assault weapons’ legislation that became law for ten years, and I’ve seen the destruction.”
“If the Supreme Court were to adopt your reasoning, I fear the number of victims would continue to grow and citizens would be rendered powerless in enacting sensible gun laws,” said Feinstein. “So this is a big part of my very honest concern. You’re being nominated for a pivotal seat, it would likely be the deciding vote on fundamental issues.”
Feinstein’s remarks in her opening statement at the Kavanaugh confirmation hearings is ample evidence that Democrat protestations over the lack of reams of requested documentary paperwork being produced for them are not the true reasons Democrats want to block or delay Kavanaugh’s confirmation.
Instead, the senator revealed that Democrat opposition to Kavanaugh is purely ideological and based on a fear that he will rule against their interests on certain issues once seated on the powerful court, which is what we’ve all known the opposition was based on before Kavanaugh’s name was even announced.
