Watch: CNN Panel Looks Off Camera, Starts Twitching When Asked to House Illegals

Share

Rick Santorum had a message for pundits who are opposed to President Donald Trump’s immigration policy: If you’re so in favor of our country hosting illegal immigrants, give them your home address.

According to the Washington Examiner, Santorum — a former Republican presidential contender and Pennsylvania senator — made the remarks Sunday on CNN, where he’s a regular contributor.

“This is what I would say to all of you,” Santorum said during the debate.

“You want America to be open, fine. I would argue, give your addresses out and tell the people who come to this country, ‘You can come to my house,'” he continued. “‘You can come to my house and you can stay here as long as you want. I will pay for your education. I will pay for your health care.'”

You can imagine what happened next:

And watch how they twitch and look off camera. (Navarro’s eyes about the 9-second mark are especially funny.) Absolutely brilliant.

Of course, everyone said that they weren’t for open borders and that Santorum was presenting a false dichotomy. Which, if you take this literally, he was. But that’s missing the point.

Members of the Washington punditry class all seem to wonder what the big deal is about illegal immigration, in part because they don’t necessarily think they’re going to be affected by it.

Do you agree with Donald Trump's illegal immigration crackdown?

Most of them don’t live near the border or work in industries where illegal immigration is going to affect them. CNN isn’t going to replace Ana Navarro tomorrow with an undocumented Salvadorian who will work below scale. Also, all of the talking heads are probably comfortable enough that tax increases to pay for illegal immigrants’ health care, education and other externalities aren’t going to be too big of a deal for them.

Yet, this is perhaps the most amazing thing about illegal immigration — those who have the least to lose because of it are often the ones who opine the most on it. Yet, when challenged to give out their addresses — quite a step, I know, but one that was illustrative — see how they immediately protest that Santorum is being unfair.

Okay, then. Why don’t they directly pick up the educational cost of an individual who’s in this country illegally? Or pay for the health care bills generated by illegal immigrants at a clinic? Of course, they’re not going to consider this.

They care about illegal immigrants until they don’t.

Santorum himself admitted that it was “gut-wrenching to see these images” that are being presented in the media. That’s the same for all of us.

“At the same time, government officials have to look back and look at the consequences of what the law is,” Santorum pointed out. “And the reality is, as Jeff Sessions has said repeatedly, the law is in place to make sure that we treat people fairly under the law and we have a deterrent effect.”

All of these panelists say they want to have laws when it comes to immigration.

But when it comes to enforcing these laws, they revealed where they really stand.
