Watch: Bishop Says Trump's 'Not a Racist,' Has Done Great Things for Blacks

Share

It is a tenet of the liberal faith that President Donald J. Trump is an irredeemable racist. We’ve been told that he’s the most racist politician to have held office since all those Southern segregationists from the 1950s and 60s (talking about what party those politicians belonged to, alas, is strictly proscribed in the liberal faith).

What proof is there that Trump is a racist? Well, he made some inadvisable comments about the kinds of people who might be coming over our border, although pretty much anyone who suggests that we have a border nowadays is considered a bigot. He instituted a “Muslim ban” on countries known to have a significant terror problem, even though Islam is not a race and the ban will likely be held up by the Supreme Court, if questions from the bench are any indication. He asked African-Americans “what do you have to lose?” by voting for him, even though it wasn’t like they were doing swimmingly under former President Barack Obama.

However, how true are these tenets of the faith? At least one man of the cloth — Aubrey Shines, an African-American bishop — told Laura Ingraham on her Fox News show that he’s not a believer when it comes to the left’s preoccupation with labeling Trump and his supporters racists.

Bishop Shines, an adviser for the Center on Security Policy, addressed what illegal immigration does to black communities, something that the media tends to ignore.

“This is what’s so aggravating to me,” Shines said. “It’s not just that blacks are, in my opinion, just adhering to it. It’s those stations that are constantly pushing this and feeding that narrative to blacks.”

“Here’s the reality — Obama said (we needed borders), and it was cool to say,” he continued. “Now that Trump is basically saying almost identical — the same exact thing — what has CNN done? They’re kind of painted him as a racist.

“He’s not a racist,” Shines continued. “This guy has done more for blacks in America, especially as it relates to the unemployment — my God.

“If one were to just look at the numbers, you can see it yourself. Black unemployment, Hispanic unemployment, it is at its lowest levels ever. And we’re actually having a dialogue in America as to what the borders are doing?

“I’ll tell you what they’re doing, Laura,” he added. “They’re killing our poor white and black people in our inner cities because drugs are constantly flowing in.”

Do you agree with Bishop Shines?

Shines was only slightly off: The unemployment numbers for April show that the while black unemployment was at the lowest level ever recorded at 6.6 percent, while Hispanic unemployment merely tied the lowest number ever at 4.8 percent.

The fact that Trump’s administration has been good on the biggest problem facing minority communities in America — namely, jobs — has been something that’s either been overlooked or pooh-poohed by the media. Yet, when Obama’s administration couldn’t deliver on jobs for minority communities, this was also overlooked. The numbers didn’t fit into the narrative puzzle, so they were best thrown in the trash.

This is to say nothing of the impact that open borders have had on minority communities in the United States, which hasn’t been a positive one — particularly when it comes to cheap labor from illegal immigrants or the drugs that are smuggled in from Central and South America (and the violence that’s concomitantly imported with them).

Obama said he was for making our borders secure, although he rarely delivered on this promise. The media covered him at his word and thought this was a fine thing. Then, when Trump decided to make our borders a priority and it quickly put him atop the GOP primary polls, this suddenly became an incredibly racist thing to say.

I think you can probably figure out the convenience of this positional switch.

As Milton Friedman once said, “One of the great mistakes is to judge policies and programs by their intentions rather than their results.” Barack Obama looked like he was going all-in for African-American and Hispanic communities. What he gave them instead was poor economic progress and a border policy that ensured it would stay that way for those on the lowest rungs of the socioeconomic ladder. Donald Trump has tried to address those issues, has succeeded to no small degree, and he’s a racist because he talks without a filter.

Funny how that works.
