Trump Unveils New Air Force One: A Bigger, Better Plane with Best Paint Job Yet

Share

Americans first laid eyes on the classy white and light blue design of Air Force One in 1962, after industrial designer Raymond Loewy worked with then-President John F. Kennedy to develop the jet.

Since then, the design — which features the presidential seal — is still in use today.

But last July, President Donald Trump revealed in an interview with CBS News that the plane would be getting a total makeover, both on the exterior and interior.

“Red, white and blue,” Trump said at the time.

“Air Force One is going to be incredible. It’s gonna be the top of the line, the top in the world. And it’s gonna be red, white and blue, which I think is appropriate,” he added.

And on Wednesday, Trump unveiled his stunningly patriotic new design for one of the world’s most secure (and mysterious) aircraft. Not only is Air Force One getting a makeover, but the new plane is going to be bigger than the current iteration.

“It’s a 747, but you know, it’s a much bigger plane,” Trump ABC News chief anchor George Stephanopoulos “It’s a much bigger wing span.”

Trump showed Stephanopoulos mock-up plans for the upgrade, which depicted the plane with a beautiful red, white and blue design — with the American flag proudly displayed on the tail of the aircraft.

A thin red line separates the dark blue bottom half of the jet from the white above it.

Trump previously announced in February 2018 that he had reached a new agreement with Boeing, which will be producing two presidential aircraft for the Trump-negotiated price of $3.9 billion.

White House deputy press secretary Hogan Gidley said at the time the deal would “save the taxpayers more than $1.4 billion.”

During the ABC interview Wednesday, Stephanopoulos asked Trump if the upgraded jet would have an escape pod like the one in the 1997 action movie “Air Force One,” which starred Harrison Ford.

Do you like President Trump's new design for Air Force One?

“You know what, there are a couple of secrets I don’t think we’re supposed to be talking about,” Trump jokingly replied.

Trump also seemed happy the new design would be one that future presidents can enjoy and show off.

“Here’s your new Air Force One, and I’m doing that for other presidents, not for me,” he said during the ABC interview.

The plane is expected to be in service by 2024.

Trump, who is unapologetically patriotic and loves this great country as much as any hard-working American, made a fantastic move by choosing to upgrade Air Force One in this manner.

Don’t get me wrong, the current design is aesthetically pleasing, too.

But this new design will leave an appropriate impression on everyone around the world who gets the chance to lay eyes on it.

And what an addition to the growing list of legacies that Trump is leaving!

Just imagining this marvelous piece of patriotic machinery making an approach to any airport runway is enough to give me the goosebumps.

I sure can’t wait to see it in real life.
