Trump Turns Tables on Dems in Baltimore Fight, Posts Damning Reminder Bernie Blasted Baltimore Too

Share

President Donald J. Trump has suckered the media yet again.

You would think that after four years of being played by him like a Stradivarius, the establishment media would figure the game out and refuse to play.

But the media are less akin to so many journalists thoughtfully considering issues and more akin to so many mice going for the cheese in the trap every single time. And it doesn’t matter how many of their buddies they watch the trap close on. They still take the cheese. Every. Single. Time.

Unless you’ve been living underground for the last couple of days, you know that on Saturday, Trump had the audacity to remind Democratic Rep. Elijah Cummings that his district, which includes a large part of Baltimore, is badly run and incredibly dangerous. The president, of course, was a touch more theatrical than that.

That was enough to trigger the latest media meltdown, not because what Trump said was especially wrong (parts of Baltimore really are terrible) but because Trump’s comment was addressed to a black man.

That was all the establishment media needed to put their racism flim-flam machine going and begin screeching at the top of their collective lungs that Trump is *bored sigh* a racist.

Do you agree with President Trump (and Bernie Sanders) about the living conditions in Baltimore?

They were so busy revving up the flim-flam machine, however, that they didn’t stop to consider 1) whether Trump might be right or 2) whether Trump might be setting a trap for them.

To make a long story short, it turns out Trump was right, and he was also setting a trap for them — and they took the bait.

Videos began to come out of on-the-ground conditions in Baltimore and what locals thought of the place. It turns out they seemed to share a similar perspective to the president’s.

Then comments made by others regarding Baltimore’s condition began to come out.

And had the media done their homework, they might have known that one of those others was, in fact, Democratic presidential candidate and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.

That’s right, the media and socialists’ darling sounded an awful lot like Trump in the past after taking a stroll through one of Baltimore’s less-affluent areas, as Students for Trump showed in a video tweeted Monday.

The president himself pointed to Sanders’ comments, saying in a tweet, “Crazy Bernie Sanders recently equated the City of Baltimore to a THIRD WORLD COUNTRY! Based on that statement, I assume that Bernie must now be labeled a Racist, just as a Republican would if he used that term and standard! The fact is, Baltimore can be brought back, maybe…”

Fox News has a nice treatment on those comments if you’d like to see more.

So now Trump has the media in a clever vise. Either they walk back their narrative on criticism of Baltimore by a white man being racist, or they admit that what Sanders said was racist.

Of course, neither of those options is tenable. A white person can criticize a city and not be racist. Racists, for everyone who has forgotten, go after people because of their race, not their municipality.

Also, they’ll never be able to admit that Sanders is racist for making comments similar to Trump’s. First, they know the comments aren’t racist. Second, they can’t dare paint the left’s best example of “the New Soviet Man” as racist.

That just wouldn’t do at all because socialism is about equality (of misery) for all, so the movement’s most vocal apologist has to appear unimpeachable in terms of race issues.

The question, then, is what happens next.

The answer is that the media lose that much more credibility with viewers while minority Democrats peek just a little bit more behind the curtain designed to keep them from realizing the great and powerful Democrats promising salvation are actually just small men seeking to gain power by keeping those same minorities desperate to escape bad schools, dangerous housing projects and the disintegration of their families.

Every time the media does this, a few more minorities begin to shake off their slumber and realize there is hope … but that it doesn’t come from the left.

CORRECTION, July 29, 2019: This commentary was originally published under the headline “Trump Turns Tables on Dems in Baltimore Fight, Posts Damning Video of Bernie Blasting Baltimore Too.” The president did not post the video; he tweeted about the issue and, in response, a video was posted by the “Students for Trump” verified Twitter account.
