Trump Redoubles Support for Kavanaugh After Seeing Hearing
President Donald Trump championed Judge Brett Kavanaugh after he gave his phenomenal opening statement before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday afternoon.
Kavanaugh stood strong and forthright at the hearing, passionately defending his and his family’s name and reputation. And it seems he’s found support within the White House.
Soon after the hearing on the sexual assault allegations against Kavanaugh, Trump praised Kavanaugh’s behavior before the committee and called for a Senate vote on Kavanaugh’s confirmation.
“Judge Kavanaugh showed America exactly why I nominated him. His testimony was powerful, honest, and riveting,” Trump tweeted.
“Democrats’ search and destroy strategy is disgraceful and this process has been a total sham and effort to delay, obstruct, and resist. The Senate must vote!”

According to Time magazine, feelings of support for Kavanaugh are prevailing in the White House.
White House deputy press secretary Raj Shah talked to Time after Kavanaugh’s opening statement. “I thought it was nothing short of spectacular — powerful,” he said in a phone interview.
“I think he developed a very compelling narrative for why this stuff isn’t true. You don’t have to hate the accuser or impugn her credibility to vote for him,” Shah said.
This is an aspect of the hearings that White House officials think will give Republicans an incentive to confirm Kavanaugh.
Washington Post reporter Robert Costa tweeted, “Talking to lots of people inside WH about how he likes how Kavanaugh is fighting back. Admires the defiance.”
President Trump is "riveted" and telling people, "This is why I nominated him," in a positive way, per person close to him. Talking to lots of people inside WH about how he likes how Kavanaugh is fighting back. Admires the defiance.

Kavanaugh made a heated defense, unequivocally denying sexually assaulting his accuser, Christine Blasey Ford.
“I intend no ill will to Dr. Ford and her family,” Kavanaugh said. He mentioned the toll the accusations have taken on his family as his wife was seen crying behind him.
“The other night Ashley and my daughter Liza said their prayers,” he said in his emotional opening statement. “And little Liza, all of 10 years old, said to Ashley, ‘We should pray for the woman.’ That’s a lot of wisdom from a 10-year-old.”
He also criticized Senate Democrats for their conduct during the proceedings, calling it “‘a national disgrace.”
“You have replaced advise and consent with search and destroy,” he told them.
Kavanaugh reminded the committee that Ford’s allegation is “refuted by the very people she says were there,” as they have claimed no recollection of the occurrence.
CNN anchor Jake Tapper also reported on the approval from the White House. “President Trump is very pleased with Brett Kavanaugh’s righteous indignation regarding the personal destruction of his good name and his family,” Tapper tweeted. “He’s confident in his choice.”

And the Trumps seem to be in agreement. Donald Trump Jr. tweeted, “I love Kavanaugh’s tone. It’s nice to see a conservative man fight for his honor and his family against a 35 year old claim with ZERO evidence and lots of holes that amounts to nothing more than a political hit job by the Dems. Others in the GOP should take notice!”

While Kavanaugh has won over the White House with his upright defense, we will have to see if it has helped sway important votes in the Senate. Until then, let’s pray that justice prevails.
