Trump Goes To Bat for Hollywood Star, Sticks Up for Freedom of Speech

Share

President Donald Trump slammed social media platforms for targeting conservatives in a series of tweets Friday, after Twitter banned Hollywood legend James Woods and Facebook banned multiple conservative provocateurs.

On Thursday, Facebook removed several conservative activists from its platform.

“The platforms banished Milo Yiannopoulos, Laura Loomer, Paul Nehlen, Alex Jones, Paul Joseph Watson and anything connected to Jones’ website Infowars,” The Daily Caller reported.

The ban wave seemed to target right-wing activists with the exception of Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, who was presumably banned for his history of anti-Semitic comments.

“We’ve always banned individuals or organizations that promote or engage in violence and hate, regardless of ideology. The process for evaluating potential violators is extensive and it is what led us to our decision to remove these accounts today,” Facebook told Fox News in a statement.

But it’s obvious that Facebook is targeting conservatives and only lumped in Farrakhan to defend itself against accusations of anti-conservative bias. Twitter has also been targeting conservatives. The platform recently banned prominent actor James Woods, who frequently criticized liberals and Democrats on Twitter.

Should Trump do something to stop big tech's censorship?

Thankfully, the president is bringing attention to big tech’s purging.

“I am continuing to monitor the censorship of AMERICAN CITIZENS on social media platforms,” Trump tweeted. “This is the United States of America – and we have what’s known as FREEDOM OF SPEECH! We are monitoring and watching, closely!”

Trump also pointed out that Facebook has unfairly suppressed conservative duo Diamond and Silk.

“The wonderful Diamond and Silk have been treated so horribly by Facebook. They work so hard and what has been done to them is very sad – and we’re looking into. It’s getting worse and worse for Conservatives on social media!” Trump continued.

“So surprised to see Conservative thinkers like James Woods banned from Twitter, and Paul Watson banned from Facebook!” Trump added.

Trump is boldly sticking up for freedom of speech, even as the left-wing media claims Trump is against the First Amendment because of his bad relationship with the media.

In reality, liberals and their big-tech allies are the ones who want to censor speech with which they disagree. You might not be a fan of the conservative provocateurs who were recently banned, but it’s clear that big tech is setting a dangerous precedent.
